The U.K. Telegraph is reporting that Rupert Murdoch has resigned from several News Corporation boards in England and the United States. "Companies House filings show that Mr Murdoch stepped down from the boards of the NI Group, Times Newspaper Holdings and News Corp Investments in the UK last week. He also quit a number of News Corp’s US boards, the details of which have yet to be disclosed by the US Securities and Exchange Commission," the Telegraph said.
News Corp. is playing down the significance, saying that it's part of the upcoming split of the corporation's newspaper businesses from its entertainment businesses. It's worth noting that Fox News is considered part of News Corporations' entertainment business. But it's also quite possible that Murdoch's resignations are part of a complete departure from News Corporation, at least as an executive (Anyone want to bet he'll remain an active shareholder?).
The Telegraph article also includes this interesting quote:
Claire Enders at Enders Analysis said Mr Murdoch’s resignations were part of the “slow fade of Rupert and James from the UK” that began last year and will be “complete and permanent”. “The grip of the Murdochs, finger by finger, has been loosened and it’s not in order to return triumphantly. It’s a permanent shift.
“James and Rupert have decided that they are not welcome in the UK, and they’re right."
Well, if you combine that with his tweet from earlier — the one where he said he {gasp!} believes in gun control:
http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/2012/07/22/tweet-pic-even-rupert-murdoch-believes-in-gun-control/murdochtwit/ . . . and there’s only one conclusion: someone’s kidnapped the real Rupert Murdoch and replaced him with a bot . . .
