If we thought the last debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump was a nail-biter, this one promises to be more so. Let's share our thoughts and observations. In just a minute, I'll embed video after the jump so you can watch it here, online, if you so wish.

Trump will barely register a footnote in history after his landslide defeat to Hillary Clinton on election day . The man is a criminal sexual deviant and an ignoramus.

David,
My point was Trump is still stuck with his base so I couldn’t see him dropping. Depending on the post debate pundit spin, Hillary could have lost some soft support because her numbers are through the roof. Daily Kos had her chance to win at 90% prior to the debate.
That said, my post debate gist is Trump is getting a lot of heat. But I’ve spent my entire day on the road limiting the news I’ve followed so I’ll see how that holds. If it holds, Hillary’s bounce may extend as the few undecideds left toss in the towel on The Donald.

I’m seeing many Trump supporters complaining that the moderators were unfair to him. The truth is Trump spoke one minute and 5 seconds more than Hillary last night. The reason why he and the right think the moderators were unfair to him is because he’s use to Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly and Fox and Friends giving him softball interviews and allowing him to say whatever he wants. They never challenge him, and he’s not use to sharing with others.

EOF I don’t see it that way. Early in the debate, Trump drove right through the mud pit. If this were the Hoo Haw Mudbug Tractor Pull that would have been a good thing. But it’s a presidential debate and it was a bad thing. It’s finally catching up with him. He’s shedding voters.

Hillary Clinton was eloquent, substantive, mostly respectful and engaging.
Donald Trump was mostly incoherent, bullish, disruptive and mostly disrespectful.

Hillary was polished and poised. Trump the often incoherent train wreck. That said, Hillary still can’t put together an effective argument for email-gate, Bill’s philandering, and her high paid speeches. They’re out there but take time to discuss and are distractions she’d prefer to dodge by calling Trump a liar and referring people to her web site.
The reason this debate is a draw is because their appeals to voters remain the same. Hillary has concrete policies, is generally optimistic, and is into coalition building. Trump is raw, unscripted emotion for the angry voters who want to stick it to DC first and worry about the consequences later.
Neither expanded their bases by much because they’re spending too much time relitigating the same mud slinging I imagine most undecideds have factored in and which turned them off all this time.
Trump may gain a point or two in the polls only because he’s dropped to ridiculous levels so Hillary has some weak support to give back. But a lot depends on the upcoming week of media spin. If they keep hounding Trump on his ‘locker room talk’ – since he didn’t really handle it well – he’s just about toast.

I agree with David. Clinton had essentially an equal performance to the first debate. She had one moment where she was clearly irritated with Trump, and she had one moment where she interrupted him, but other than that, she played at as classy as one could given the opponent.
Trump, for his part, took every cheap shot he could at both Clinton and the moderators. When he wasn’t doing that, he was frankly incoherent on policy. He clearly followed the Hannity playbook of ignoring the questions he was asked and trying to pivot to personal attacks on Clinton followed by pithy statements about he was going to run a presidency that was going to be “so much better.”
People who are already in his corner, or who simply hate the Clintons, will love his performance tonight. I fully expect Limbaugh and the other hatemongers on AM radio to gleefully replay every last insult from Trump throughout the next two weeks as red meat for their listeners. But the polling is already coming in on the debate. CNN had it almost as high of a win for Clinton as the first one. YouGov had a tighter win for her.
And we should remember that going into this debate, Trump was already down to 22.4% at 538 on their most cautious outlook. He needed a massive win to be able to turn that around. Not just the attempted catchphrase of Tucker Carlson of being “an escape artist”. He needed a, forgive the expression, Huge win. He didn’t get one, and to my mind, he simply reconfirmed why he is temperamentally unsuited to this office.
Let’s see what happens with the polling over the next week and a half before the final debate. I fully expect Trump to come out completely unhinged in the final one. And let’s not forget that he thinks he has a sympathetic moderator in Chris Wallace…

I’ve seen rumors that Pence is bailing. But he tweeted something different tonight. Something like “Congratulations to my running mate.” But we’ll see.

No, this one goes to Hillary. Trump looked petulant and small especially at the get go. As it went on Trump did absolutely nothing to look professional.
Importantly, did Trump step on Pences toes? Pence may be looking to bail.

Sad to say, I think it was a draw. But I’m not sure that’s a win. Especially with more oppo tapes supposedly dropping. Also, there are rumors Mike Pence is leaving the ticket.
