Before Donald Trump began his obsessive attacks on Megyn Kelly, he used to send her autographed clippings and he'd sometimes call.
Kelly was interviewed for 25 minutes by Katie Couric last night and she had a lot to say about Trump. But here is the key takeaway, via The New York Times:
There was a time when the presidential candidate used to call the Fox News host after a particular segment he enjoyed to offer compliments, or send news clippings about Ms. Kelly that he would sign. Ms. Kelly counted those gestures as part of an attempt to “curry favor” with reporters before announcing his presidential bid.
So it was for this reason, Ms. Kelly surmised, that when her opening question at the first Republican debate was about disparaging remarks he had made about women, “he felt betrayed.”
I believe Kelly is exactly right about this. As NewsHounds' Richard wrote me, I'm waiting for Donald Trump to call Kelly a liar over the clippings and for her to tweet one out.
Watch it below. For what it's worth, I believe this is the best of the many, many Kelly interviews I've seen or read lately.
Who have we become …?
