Robert Mueller will be testifying before the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees Wednesday, starting at 8:30 AM ET. Let’s discuss!
Even Fox News is promoting the event so you know they know it’s going to be big. I’ll have more on their coverage tomorrow after the hearing.
In the meanwhile, share your thoughts before, during and after below. The fate of our democracy is at stake!
It would in particular explain why Mueller seems not to have come to terms with the fact that he’s no longer testifying as a prosecutor employee but as a private citizen, unable to leave his narrow groove and deal with the big picture beyond the simple fact of Russian interference on Trump’s behalf.
I’m sure Mueller thinks he’s upholding integrity but he can do more than turn this hearing into a dramatic reading of his report. Mueller sadly is doing a disservice to our country.
Especially in light of Barr publicly saying Mueller should have made clear recommendations. Mueller should feel empowered to say whether or not he would have indicted Trump and put an end to any public/DoJ confusion.
But I will bet that the Intel hearing will be much more hard hitting.
Mueller’s carefulness with adhering to the borders of his report is a crutch for his mild impairment. One of the few, brisk ripostes he started to make was cut off and not returned to. It was to the point as to why Mueller said Trump “couldn’t be exonerated”, when such a statement does not fit with standard prosecutorial protocol, and that Ken Starr wasn’t shy about suggesting impeachment. If Mueller had more vigor, he would have insisted on completing his answer, which would have been essentially that “unconditional unindictability” is also not standard procedure and didn’t exist at Starr’s moment.
Mueller’s best moment so far was in defense of his staff and his commitment to apoliticality.
