Former NYPD Detective and Fox News contributor Bo Dietl repeatedly announced on the air Friday that he will run for New York City mayor in 2017 against Bill de Blasio. Host Neil Cavuto should have probed to find out if Dietl is serious because if he is, he should be removed from the Fox payroll pronto.
Dietl ostensibly appeared on Your World Friday to discuss a judge’s decision siding with protestors against police in terms of the cops using excessive force. But before long, Dietl changed the conversation to his purported run – and to attack de Blasio.
Dietl announced, “I’m going to run for Mayor against Big Bird De Blasio in New York.”
Later, Dietl said “Where is this Big Bird Mayor when you get cops who are killed?”
Cavuto asked, “You’re talking about Bill de Blasio?”
”I’m talking about Mayor Big Bird de Blasio,” Dietl said, “and Neil, you’re going to hear it first, I’m going to run for Mayor. Bo against Big Bird.”
Instead of questioning whether Dietl was seriously announcing a candidacy, Cavuto said, “That’ll be interesting to see.”
”Well I’m not afraid,” Dietl said.
Cavuto responded with a friendly, “No, I know that. I know that. Well thank you very much my friend.”
Fox has a policy about removing political candidates from its payroll (as it should). Unless Dietl comes out and states that he has no intention of running, his contract should be terminated immediately.
