Although Greta Van Susteren is named by Rupert Murdoch as one of Fox’s “liberal” voices, she nonetheless kept whatever liberal views she has to herself as she listened quietly and without challenge to Senator Mike Lee as he called the federal government “too dangerous to be trusted.”
Lee told Van Susteren:
When our federal government gets to be something that spends $4 trillion a year, it’s unmanageable. This is one of the few moments where I find myself agreeing with something David Axelrod has said. He said yesterday that the federal government’s just too vast for any one person, including the president of the United States to be able to control. That means it’s time to ramp it down. That means it’s time to simplify. That means that what we have is too dangerous to be trusted.
It begs the question, why, if Lee feels the federal government is so dangerous, is he serving in it? And, since he went on to talk about his bill to demolish Obamacare, whether or not he takes advantage of the federally-provided healthcare provided to U.S. Senators. If so, why does he deserve what he is working so earnestly to take away from others? If not, why doesn’t he share the joys and benefits of purchasing private insurance on his own for himself and his family?
Instead, Van Susteren moved right along as if she hadn’t noticed that a U.S Senator had just announced he despises the very institution that provides him with a paycheck. By not challenging him, she helped promote the idea that he represents a mainstream view.
