In a discussion about the Baton Rouge shootings of several police officers yesterday, Fox’s Chris Wallace suddenly made a big point of talking about how much Donald Trump will likely benefit from the tragedy.
Wallace appeared from Cleveland to chat with anchor Shepard Smith about the shootings. But after a discussion about security at the Republican convention in Cleveland, Wallace suddenly launched into an infomercial about how the bad news for America is such good news for Trump:
WALLACE: There’s another aspect to this and, of course, and that’s the political aspect. And you hate to talk about politics when you’re talking about a terrible tragedy like this. But it does play a role. Actually all breaking events play a role, like the terror attack in Nice, Shep.
And I think it’s very interesting that in the last few days – actually, I guess, ever since the Dallas ambush of police, that Donald Trump has been saying very forcefully that he’s the law and order candidate. Again, in his announcement of Mike Pence as his running mate yesterday, he talked about that he’s the law and order candidate. And that’s gonna get a lot of traction, I think, at a time when things seem to be spinning out of control.
I was looking, just a couple of moments ago. It was in December that Donald Trump called for his ban on all foreign Muslims coming into this country and that was about a week after San Bernardino where 14 people were killed by those two terrorists. And a lot of us thought, “Boy, that’s very controversial, but as we found at all the exit polls during the Republican primaries, in fact people overwhelmingly supported that idea.
So Donald Trump – and you can say, “Well, you know, it’s just a phrase, there’s not a lot of meat on the bones.” It’s certainly what Democrats are saying. But for him to stake out the claim, the brand, if you will, as the law and order candidate, as we continue to see the shootings and now what seems to be, you know, kind of an undeclared war, at least in some small sectors of the country between the police and the African American community, or – that’s wrong, let me restate – the police and some bad actors in the African American community, the law and order candidate is going to strike a real chord with a lot of people.
Watch this shameful display below, from Fox’s July 17 coverage of the Baton Rouge shootings.
And now Chris is relishing his favorite flavor of politician profiting from the horrible violence that is the fruit of the work of Faux News.
As I’ve said before, Fox News has a curious [false] narrative that if we crack down with law enforcement in black neighborhoods it’ll relieve all this black resentment of police officers.
On the face of it, the notion is absurd. Until you ponder Fox is mostly catering to older white conservatives who instinctively fear the black man [as conservative media has trained them]. So Chris’ and Fox’s Nixonian meme supporting Der Furor is targeted at alleviating Caucasian fears, not easing racial tensions.
When said crackdowns backfire leading to more backlashes like street demonstrations it’ll only make matters far worse leading to increasing calls for the police to go full Fascist in black neighborhoods. A never-ending escalation of racial resentments and fears on both sides.
