Fox News loves to scold others for disrespecting our national anthem. But today, Fox host David Asman and Patrick Buchanan talked all the way through the Star Spangled Banner as it was played at Liberty University in advance of Donald Trump’s commencement address.
It would have been one thing if Fox completely cut away during the national anthem. But viewers could hear and see it sung on the left side of the screen.
That was in direct contradiction to the U.S. Code which states that one should stand at attention during the playing of the national anthem. Or, at the very least, not talk.
Yet Fox has played the role of national-anthem police with others. Who can forget the Sean Hannity poutrage over then-candidate Barack Obama not putting his hand over his heart during the Star Spangled Banner? More recently, contributor Mike Huckabee suggested NFL player Colin Kaepernick should leave the country for kneeling during the national anthem and Tucker Carlson attacked the patriotism of Democratic Senator Tim Kaine for not denouncing Kaepernick.
This is not the first time Fox has been caught talking during the Star Spangled Banner.
