Fox News On Cleanup Duty In Trump Aisle ‘Purple Heart”

After joking about receiving a Purple Heart – without having spent a minute in service to this country – Donald Trump was once again in trouble with veterans. But the Fox News foot soldiers on Happening Now were on the Republican Rehab job today with a lapdog interview with the veteran who gave his Purple Heart to Trump.

In case you missed it, retired Lt. Col. Louis Dorfman, a Trump supporter, just happened to give Trump a Purple Heart medal yesterday, in the midst of Trump’s ongoing PR debacle over his attacks on the Gold Star Khan family.

And then Trump got stepped in it again because of this:

"And I said, 'Man, that’s like big stuff. I always wanted to get the Purple Heart," Trump said. "This was much easier.”

Naturally, Fox hustled Dorfman to its “fair and balanced” airwaves today and offered up a softball interview with Jenna Lee, who happens to be married to a former Navy SEAL.

Lee asked such questions as “Why do you believe in him” and “After you handed it to him, what did you think? Were you happy that you gave it to him?”

You don't even need to watch the interview to know the answers. But if you don't believe me or want to know what other softball questions she asked, watch it below, from the August 3 Happening Now.

It would be so funny to watch the artery-bursting rage and incoherent spluttering if a veteran were to gift his Purple Heart (or even his Boy Scout’s Toilet Roll Changing badge) to our boy Barack.

Watching this video is touching. I don’t mind the “softball interview” because this guy is so out of the political fray, so normal, so sympathetic, to ask tough, probing questions would look like beating up a well-meaning vet and war hero.

It’s obvious this guy is your typical Trump supporter. He’s made a deep emotional connection to The Donald but can’t articulate a rational argument to explain his support to save his life.

So we get the backstory Trump acted the way we’d expect a presidential candidate to behave. Then we have the public spectacle of Trump shifting into high gear being his typically boorish, ego masturbating self. Unapologetically being the showman, the clown. His public display was totally inappropriate and if Hair Hitler wasn’t the Republican nominee for President Fox News would be red faced in rage throwing a fit over a lack of patriotism until the end of time.

CBSN was doing extensive analysis last night on the Trump campaign express driving the GOP to Hell. This Fox segment parallels a narrative Trump’s support will never ever desert him no matter what in the spirit of Der Furor boasting he could murder someone publically and they’d still vote for him. However, this loyal base which the Trumpsters boast about – the old bringing zillions of new voters into the big GOP tent – isn’t growing. Not one iota.

Trump’s inability to pivot means he’s just repeating his primary clown act demagoguing nativism, paranoia, evidence free boasting he’s the greatest at everything, and anti-political correctness hate. The rest of the world is trying to deliver the message to Trump the game’s changed from primary to election. Lets hope he lacks the impulse control to accept their sage advice.

One of the great object lessons Fox presents us with on a daily basis is the admonition to ‘never judge a book by its cover’. Whether we resist it or not, we are hard-wired to form instant judgments on people (hence the long drawn out process of overcoming racist and sexist attitudes in society) and it is difficult to put aside the likes of Jenna Lee’s looks and manner, in order to see the vile, mercenary creepiness below.

Some of the Fox types have easy ‘tells’ that let us make fairly good instant evaluations (Hannity’s smarminess, O’Bully’s smugness, Megyn’s smirk and sideways glances, Doocy’s goofy light-heartedness given the lie by those cold, calculating eyes) but others like Hemmer, Gretchen and Bret Baier come across in the first few moments as attractive-ish regular folks.

I wonder how Jenna explained her meetings with Roger to her Seal husband.

All Trump had to do to get the veterans vote was to show up to a little VFW Post somewhere and have a couple of beers with the boys. That’s all.
Now Hillary is on her way to a VFW Post somewhere. If she’s smart she might have a spin around the dance floor (if they have a jukebox) as well as have a couple of beers.
