Fox Helps Spin Trump’s Fake Spokesman

We can just imagine how Fox News would turn up the outrage-o-meter if Hillary Clinton or any Democrat had been caught pretending to be her own publicist and then hanging up on a reporter who confronted her about it. But since it’s Donald Trump… well, that’s “ancient” news.

On today’s MediaBuzz, host Howard Kurtz actually did a decent job allowing his balanced panel an opportunity to explain why, as The Washington Post reported, Trump’s 1991 “masquerade[e] as an unusually helpful and boastful advocate for himself,” which he now denies, matters. Kurtz acknowledged that he thought the voice in an old clip was Trump’s. But Kurtz also made a point of noting that Trump may have been “just enjoying himself with reporters a quarter century ago.”

USA Today’s Heidi Przybyla said it’s not the story but the cover up. “Why not just admit it and move on?” she asked.

“People already know about Donald Trump, his business life, his reality TV show life, his playboy life,” Kurtz said. “I don’t know how much new information is there.” Then he moved on to discuss The New York Times’ front page story about Trump’s overall (mis)treatment of women.

But just in case the Trump-friendly message didn’t come through, FoxNews.com called its video of the discussion, “Big news? Trump posed as PR man. Washington Post obtains ancient audio.”

I don’t know about you but to me, “ancient” means something much older then 25 years and suggests something in pre-history or from another civilization. In other words, irrelevant to today.

Howie knows the drill. Kiss GOPiggy butt and then cash your Fux Noise paycheck. Rinse and repeat.

We will eventually learn that Trump himself released the tapes as a diversion from his other controversies like his reluctance to release his tax returns and his pending fear of the Panama Papers linking him to off-shore financial sheenanigans.

I guess Monica Lewinsky hasn’t quite made the cutoff since she quit the Clinton White House in 1997, eh FOX? 😉

Kurtz is smart not to play the same losing game as Trump and his campaign by lamely denying the allegation. I think the Trumpsters thought they were safe based upon the tapes that came out and heresay evidence of people claiming Trump had told them. However, CBS News reported this morning The Donald admitted this in court and there are records to prove it. Whoops! 😜

I’m the first to admit, properly handled, Trump could have laughed this off and we all would have joined him. It should be a nothing burger. However, he’s embarrassed. His ego can’t handle it. So like any shyster salesman he makes stuff up to lie about it.

Will the angry sheep following him notice? Unlikely.

It’s the coverup and lying that is important here. The actual story itself is somewhat silly. Then again, so is the guy the story is about.

It’s really quite simple. If Donald Trump did something 20 or so years ago, that’s ancient information. (And by the way, the NY Times story is a much bigger deal than people are admitting right now) So if Trump has been caught pulling an outrageous scam and is currently involved in lying about it, that’s unimportant and irrelevant.

But if Hillary Clinton did anything 20 or so years ago that Fox News can try to spin, that’s extremely relevant and important material that must be repeated on all newscasts and on the various prime time pundit shows.

Everybody got that straight?

My guess is that something 25 years ago is off limits, but 17 years ago is fair game.
