Perhaps because the culture war isn’t going so well these days, Fox is now reporting that “America’s costly foreign aid tab” is “in the crosshairs” according to a report on FoxNews.com called, "Growing the Debt: US resumes $1.6B in aid to Pakistan." While we are not told whose “crosshairs,” as might be warranted in a truly fair and balanced report, we can probably guess. Spoiler: it’s the Republicans.
The article starts out by fear mongering over the national debt which, “thanks to the newly sealed” debt ceiling, is now above $17 trillion.
According to Fox, “a big chunk” of aid, $1.6 billion, is being sent to Pakistan. We also learn that the “battle” over aid has been escalating as Republicans look to drown the budget “seek additional savings.”
Fox also raises “concerns that some Pakistani officials are taking U.S. money with one hand and helping America’s enemies with the other” without any citation or examples to support it. It seems that even the ever-popular Fox method of outsourcing opinions via the term “some say” would be too much attribution here.
Perhaps Fox readers would be interested to know that there are many benefits which foreign aid offers the U.S., as Senator John McCain knows. Or maybe they would be surprised to know that ALL foreign aid takes up only about one percent of the total budget.
