Fox Affiliate’s Deceptive Video Makes You Think Protesters Shouted ‘Kill A Cop’

Fox affiliate WBFF in Baltimore aired a video of protesters at a “Justice for All” rally in Washington, D.C. The affiliate claimed that the protesters were shouting, “Kill a cop.” WBFF even aired a video edited to make it sound that way. But an unedited video makes it quite clear the protesters were saying something else entirely. UPDATED

From a December 22 post by Matt Wilstein on Mediaite (my emphasis):

Three times over the last 24 hours, Baltimore Fox affiliate WBFF has played a misleadingly edited clip from last week’s National “Justice for All” March in Washington, D.C. to make it sound like protesters were calling on people to “kill a cop.”

“At this rally in Washington, D.C. participants chanted, ‘We won’t stop, we can’t stop, so kill a cop,’” WBFF’s Melinda Roeder said during a Sunday night report about the murder of two police officers in New York City, before playing a truncated version of a protest video from C-SPAN. “The anti-police sentiment reached a turning point this weekend in New York when two officers were gunned down in cold blood.”

In reality, the protesters were saying,

We can’t stop!

We won’t stop!

‘til killer cops are in cell blocks!

Furthermore, as Gawker noted, the woman leading the chant is the sister of someone killed by the Baltimore police:

What’s significant about this act – other than the fact that it is intended for and will be gobbled up by psychotic paranoid racist conservative white people as evidence of the inherent criminality of black people – is that the woman leading the chant is Tawanda Jones, the sister of Tyrone West, who was murdered by Baltimore City Police on July 18, 2013. The West family’s quest for justice for this crime has been overwhelmingly ignored by the city of Baltimore – after 73 weeks’ worth of “West Wednesday” actions, the family has still not even been given Tyrone’s full autopsy report.

Gawker also noted the explicitly non-violent nature of Jones’ protests, along with her distinction of “killer cops” from “all cops.”

But even at the local level, Fox’s conservative political agenda trumps news.

Watch the two videos below and see for yourself.

(H/T reader Eric J.)

UPDATE: WBFF has apologized to Jones. Raw Story has more.

cap, I didn’t call it a murder, Gawker did. The point is not whether he was murdered or not. The point is, the sister thinks so and that was the context of her saying that “killer cops” should go to jail.

@cap: Tyrone West’s death isn’t a murder just because you say it is.

The autopsy results say so, cap . . .

Right, Joe. Some Fox “News” channels are not owned by 21st Century Fox, but they operate the same way as Fox “News” Channel.

One Fox “News” affiliate, not associated with the parent company, uses a white van for news coverage. Gone is the Fox “News” logo-for obvious reasons.

Lyle, Bud’s whole purpose is to appeal to men’s lowest instincts — sex, fear, anger, jealousy, greed, envy and hunger. These are reinforced multiple times a day, which proves to the viewer that everything they know and own are threatened. Hmmmmm…..there is a psych study in there just waiting to be researched.

Goes to show that FOX appeals to man’s lower instincts.

Roeder is too old, too chubby and too brunette to fit in with the blonde brigade on Fux.

If WBFF propagandist Melinda Roeder is blond and wears a mini-skirt hiked up to her female body parts, she has a future with the Fux Noise network.

The woman leading the chant, Tawana Jones? She did an interview confronting them. She was very articulate and controlled, but you could tell she was PISSED. I’m waiting for the video to be publicly accessible, sites that already mentioned it just have a transcript of a few key quotes.
