Democratic Presidential Candidates Debate - Open Thread

Posted by Ellen -7859.80pc on November 20, 2019 · Flag

Ten Democratic candidates for president will debate tonight at 9 PM ET in Atlanta, Georgia. I'll have information on how to watch, who will be debating and who's moderating after the jump.

From CNN:

The debate will be broadcast exclusively on MSNBC and will also stream for free on MSNBC.com and washingtonpost.com, as well as on NBC News and The Washington Post's mobile apps, according to the Democratic National Committee. Audio of the debate will be available on SiriusXM Channel 118, and TuneIn.

Debaters will be: Joe Biden, Cory Booker, Pete Buttigieg, Tulsi Gabbard, Kamala Harris, Amy Klobuchar, Bernie Sanders, Tom Steyer, Elizabeth Warren, and Andrew Yang.

Moderators will be: MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, Andrea Mitchell, Kristen Welker, and Washington Post reporter Ashley Parker.

Watch a preview below, via CNBC.

You’re probably talking about Tulsi Gabbard.

I don’t know who the young woman on the panel is, but she certainly undercuts her intellectual credibility with that appalling accent. Is it what we call ‘Valley Girl’? She sounds for all the world like the (very talented) actress who fronts the Hilton Hotel ads. “Yeah, I’m good at picking stuff.”

Amy and Kamala are killing it out there. That take-down of Gabbard was epic. Bernie is just a caricature of himself and poor Joe is coming across as, well, a kind, reliable ex-Vice-President.

John McKee, agree.

Laughs for Booker when he calls himself the other Rhodes scholar on the stage.

I do wish this whole primary business didn’t revolve around the complete fiction that a President gets to dictate policies at will when they get into the White House. They can certainly champion a wealth tax, medicare-for-all or whatever plans-they-have that they want considered, but ACTUAL change comes through co-operation and compromise with the two houses of congress.

I would much prefer these candidates expound on what legislative actions they would push, for sure, but mostly show how they could become an inspirational leader who would excite the American people and reassure friends around the world.

Big applause for Klobuchar saying a woman can beat Trump because “Nancy Pelosi does it every single day.”

Big laugh for Amy Klobuchar saying she raised $17,000 from ex boyfriends in her first Senate race.

Kampala Harris ripping Gabbard for cozying you to Fox, Bannon and Trump.

Tulsi Gabbard is still running against non-existent candidate Hillary Clinton.

Warren says she’s going to defend ObamaCare but how does that go with you-know-what?

Ack, Buttigieg just brought up Medicare for all who want it. Now Kristen Walker is bringing up the subject writ large.

I think Cory Booker makes a good point about growing wealth not just taxing it. But the room here is silent until laughing with appreciation at Warren’s comeback about what can be done with her wealth tax.

Bernie got a laugh from the crowd.

I’m back at Dem HQ. Thank goodness they are not arguing about the fine points of Medicare for all.
