Yesterday Fox Nation posted for their readers’ edification a clip from the "Today Show" in which Ann Curry asked comedian Chris Rock (aka Marty the Zebra on soon-to-be-released Madagascar 3), what animal he could be if he could choose. Rock replied he'd stick with Marty, joking that it was "in honor of our zebra president, black and white, white and black." Rock added "I love our president, you know, but he's black and white, he appeals to all…That's what I'm going for….We ignore the President’s whiteness, but it’s there, it’s there.”
Mention race in any context, (in the Obama context) and some Fox Nation readers will be unable to resist making racist comments, any more than lions can resist eating zebras. H/T @NewsHoundAlex who flagged these “Fox Nation droppings,” as she called them, last night:
They were still at it this morning, by which time your humble servant had managed to learn how to save web pages as image files.
And this afternoon, when your humble servant managed to post images on a bog, they were still taking comments on that thread. I don't know where the mods are. Maybe they've gone to Madagascar and been eaten by lions.
But, seriously, the racism of posters is just a symptom of the real problem, which is the deep racism of the Republican party, which has become a haven for the closet racists that have always been lurking just beneath the surface of our society. Since Obama’s election all of this hatred has come boiling to the surface. A large part of our society has taken several giants step backward…..or maybe just finally exposed itself for the disgusting lot that it is.
32.4% of the site are so openly and unrepentant in their venom against their chosen targets that it’s physically impossible to see less than 10 slurring comments a day.
It was… disgusting, to say the least.
