Breaking News: The U.S. Has Illegally Launched 'Dozens Of Missiles' Against Syria

President Heel Spurs who, you may recall, attacked President Barack Obama for wanting to intervene in Syria - and demanded he get Congressional approval - has suddenly decided he was so upset about the Syrian government's chemical attack on civilians that he has not only launched dozens of missiles, he couldn't be bothered to get Congressional approval.

The Huffington Post put Trump's illegal action delicately:

It is not clear what ― if any ― legal authority Trump is claiming to strike the Assad regime. The U.S. has claimed authority to bomb ISIS in Syria under the 2001 Authorization for the Use of Military Force by claiming that ISIS is an offshoot of al Qaeda. But there is no war authorization from Congress that could be interpreted to allow military action against the Syrian government, nor can the U.S. claim it is defending itself. When former President Barack Obama considered a similar retaliatory strike against the Assad regime in 2013, he made it clear he would first seek approval from Congress.

Let's take a stroll down Memory Lane, shall we?

AGAIN, TO OUR VERY FOOLISH LEADER, DO NOT ATTACK SYRIA - IF YOU DO MANY VERY BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN & FROM THAT FIGHT THE U.S. GETS NOTHING!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 5, 2013

President Obama, do not attack Syria. There is no upside and tremendous downside. Save your "powder" for another (and more important) day!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 7, 2013

The President must get Congressional approval before attacking Syria-big mistake if he does not!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 30, 2013

So what do you think is Trump's real goal here? I doubt anyone believes he gives a damn about the Syrian victims. Heck, he never gave a damn about Americans when the Oroville dam broke in California last month. Is this about his sinking poll numbers? Trying to look independent from Russia?

Shepard Smith broke into Tucker Carlson Tonight with the news. So far, the cheerleading has been somewhat muted on Fox. But I'm sure it will become louder, more pronounced and more jingoistic before long.

Watch Smith's breaking news below and share your thoughts.

I think he has really pissed off the white nationalists, alt right, KKK or whatever the gibbering goons are called. The same collective that wanted us to stay out of WWII.

That popularity rating might drop a few more notches.

As manly man Putin and Assad were forewarned of the attack, the damage and loss of life was minimal. Largely symbolic. OK for now, but what does the Tangerine Tyrant do for an encore if Syria persists in chemical attacks? The risk of stumbling into a shooting war with Russia is rising.

Assad’s gassing his own people. The response was proper, imho. To do nothing is far worse.

Actually, this is the first thing that Trump has done that makes any sense. To call it illegal is ridiculous. It’s perfectly legal under the War Powers Act. You may not agree with it, but that doesn’t make any t illegal. You need to get your facts straight. Certainly, Trump is an idiot, but he got this one right.

6 planes destroyed.

Yeah, Russia was warned of the attack. And the results of the attack are 6 Syrians dead, planes destroyed and the runway is intact. Did Russia know before Congress knew??

Whoa!!!! ABC is saying the Syrians knew of the impending missile attack and evacuated the air base. So this begs the question, did the Trump administration inform the Russian government about the attack before the U.S. Congress???!!!

This is just the beginning. Trump will lash out like a wild animal and breed an even bigger worse ISIS than we’ve ever thought possible.

I think Bannon saw a quick opportunity to hit an easy target, make Trump look tough, and change the news cycle away from the now-constant reports of trouble in the Pence White House. Syria was easy to attack, and they can play up the notion of being “tougher than weak Obama”. And given the situation in Congress, Bannon knew that there wouldn’t be any more than a token complaint about procedure. Lashing out like this makes Trump look like he’s decisive and strong in Bannon’s eyes.

I agree that plenty of other countries will be stepping up to teach these guys what’s what. I expect China will do so economically, and I expect many other countries will simply shun the US until a real head of state gets back to the White House in 2021. The real test, to me, will be if and when these guys actually start building “The Wall” on the southern border – the proper response there, which I think we’ll see, would be for Mexico to cut off relations with us until Trump is out of office.

I don’t trust Trump, but maybe a cigar is just a cigar. Assad pushed on Trump and Trump pushed back. Somebody was gonna do it. And with the current instability in the White House I hope no one has an appetite for more of the same. The triangulation between America, Assad and Putin makes this display of force look kind of pillow fightish, even though plenty of missiles were launched. With a little luck, a low casualty count and pray for no more pissing contests.

But this Orange Orangutan is so arrogant that everyone wants to see his ass spanked. We’ll see who steps up next.

Not asking Congress just opened up another can of worms.

Thank you John. You beat me to it.

Yes, it’s Wag the Dog.

These people couldn’t care less about the dead in Syria. This attack is about distracting people in any way possible from the ineptitude and corruption of this presidency. And there’s only so much the Pence White House can do to get people not to notice the stench.

Wag the Dog hits the ground running! Extraordinary how the ‘man’ is reduced to tears and pleading with gawd all-frigging-mighty over the gassing, yet couldn’t give a flying fig over the deliberate targetting of schools, hospitals and first responders just a matter of weeks ago.
David Lindsay commented 2017-04-06 22:17:05 -0400 · Flag
He needs to follow the law here regarding war powers. Congress would have given him authority. My best guess is he will claim he needed the element of surprise.
