Bill O’Reilly Hits Back At Jon Stewart’s ‘End Of Traditional America’ Takedown

Posted by Ellen -7859.80pc on November 20, 2012 · Flag

Last week, Jon Stewart skewered Bill O’Reilly’s and Mitt Romney’s attacks on Obama voters and especially lampooned O’Reilly’s “end of traditional America” comments on the night of the election. Although ultimately Stewart’s ridiculing was laced with kindness, it concluded with a hilariously ridiculous graphic of O’Reilly in a headdress. That must have hurt O’Reilly’s tender feelings – already smarting from a scathing Washington Post editorial. So despite having defended his comments earlier in the show, he rallied to his own defense again later, in the Reality Check, segment – this time hitting back at “obtuse” Stewart and the “pinheads” at Comedy Central.

Referring to Stewart as “Mr. Obtuse,” O’Reilly said:

What do you think was going on at the Democratic Convention when a variety of speakers put out a long laundry list of things they want the government to provide? Did you miss that, Jon Stewart?

Traditional American voters generally want a smaller government in Washington. More local control. Some oversight on abortion. And believe in American exceptionalism. A majority of those who voted for Obama want a large government that spends heavily on entitlements because that reduces so-called income inequality. They want equality for gays in the marriage arena. They want unfettered abortion with no parental notification for minors. They want a one world foreign policy that gives other nations equal status to America. Here’s a bulletin to those pinheads at Comedy Central: Those are not traditional positions. Are we clear about this?”

…The country’s definitely changing. The values of traditional Americans are being challenged by the coalitions the Democrats effectively put together. That’s the deal. No lamenting, no race baiting, no bullfeathers.

Well, as I said before, characterizing Obama voters as a bunch of mooching people of color may strike O’Reilly as “no spin” truth but to a whole lot of Americans, it’s race baiting, plain and simple.

As for calling Jon Stewart “Mr. Obtuse” and Comedy Central “pinheads,” those are fightin’ words, Bill! Don’t expect Stewart to just sit back and take it.

And that’s good news for the rest of us.

One day in the future people will say that gay marriage and legalized marijuana are traditional American values. There is nothing magical about tradition, of course. And as a political philosophy, "sticking with tradition’ is the province of the fearful and the unimaginative. The fearful have had a big voice for a long time, so far their philosphy given us bad military decisions, a lot of disaster movies and some seriously gridlocked government. Time to shush to the fearmongers, and that means you, Bill.
