Laura Ingraham Whines About ‘Liberal’ Media Focusing Too Much On Rep. Todd Akin – And Then Makes Him The Top Story Of The Factor

Posted by Ellen · August 21, 2012 11:41 PM · 3 reactions

Apparently, when it comes to reporting on the political firestorm created by Rep. Todd Akin, it’s a case of “do as I say, not as I do,” for O’Reilly Factor guest host Laura Ingraham. During her Talking Points editorial tonight, she suggested it’s the Obama-biased media that has kept the focus on Akin. And then, without a moment of irony or self-consciousness, she segued to the top story which was about – you guessed it! Todd Akin.

Fox News Discusses Newsweek's Obama-Bashing Article, Wonders if it's the Beginning of a Trend

Posted by Margarita · August 21, 2012 5:05 PM · 5 reactions

After months of winging that the so-called liberal media is giving President Obama a pass, Fox News is dancing a tentative happy dance over the highly negative “Hit the Road, Barack: Why we Need a New President” cover story in Newsweek by columnist and Harvard/Oxford professor Niall Ferguson. Both Ferguson and Byron York of the Washington Examiner, appeared on On the Record last night to speculate about whether the article might be the beginning of a backlash against Obama in the mainstream media.

Mike Huckabee Offers Todd Akin Opportunity For Redemption

Posted by Priscilla · August 21, 2012 10:40 AM · 5 reactions

Whilst Catholics get their souls scrubbed in confession, evangelicals maintain that if they just say they're sorry, their transgression is "under the blood" and it's time to move on. That was basically the theme of GOP US Rep. and Senate candidate Todd Akin's commentary on Mike Huckabee's radio show Sunday night. Akin apologized (?!) for his bizarre and offensive comment about "legitimate" rape with this statement, to Huckabee: "I was talking about forcible rape, and that was absolutely the wrong word."  (So, uh "forcible rape" is different from "legitimate" rape, how?) Huckabee, BTW, endorsed and supported Akin's candidacy and for that Akin is grateful. During the warm Christian brotherizing that went on during the interview, Huckabee seemed to validate the Sharon Angle philosophy that being forced to give birth, after a rape, is making lemonade out of lemons (Be happy ladies, you're gonna be a mommy). Huckabee noted that horrible rapes have created "wonderful human beings." Words fail...

Mike Huckabee Validates Tony Perkins' Defense Of FRC & Attack On SPLC

Posted by Priscilla · August 21, 2012 7:15 AM · 1 reaction

Fox News' appeal to conservative victimization has reached a new height (or is it low!) in its providing a showcase for Tony Perkins (and his apologist Michelle Malkin) to claim that the Family Research Council was targeted as a result of the hatred being spread by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Meanwhile, nothing has been said, by either Perkins or his Fox abetters, about the reasons for the hate group designation; i.e. not because the FRC opposes "traditional" marriage but because they have a long history of denigrating and defaming the LGBT community. In the Orwellian world of the FRC and Fox News, it's the SPLC who not only hate good Christians but, according to Perkins, gave the shooter a "license to shoot." (Perkins never said that about Bill O'Reilly whose nationally televised invective against an abortion provider did contribute to a climate of hate in which the doctor was murdered). In addition to appearing on The Factor and America Live, Perkins got some warm, Christian fellowship from Mike Huckabee who continued the deflecting and smearing that's key to the conservative victimization that Fox specializes in.

Sean Hannity Attacks Obama For Condemning “Relatively Obscure” Rep. Akin

Posted by Ellen · August 21, 2012 2:19 AM · 11 reactions

In his no-holds barred desire to smear President Obama with just about anything he can throw, Sean Hannity attacked President Obama's remarks about Rep. Akin by pretending that Obama had plucked some "relatively obscure" Congressman out of the crowd to scapegoat. But Hannity knew full well that Akin - whose shocking remarks about women not getting pregnant from "legitimate rape" - were the focus of a huge political firestom. Earlier that very day, Hannity did his best to push Akin out of the Senate race he’s engaged in by warning that the entire balance of power in the U.S. Senate and possibly even the presidency could rest on his candidacy.

Chris Wallace Helps Perpetuate Romney/Ryan Distortion That Obama Raided Medicare

Posted by Ellen · August 20, 2012 9:36 PM

Chris Wallace discussed Medicare yesterday with spokesmen for both the Obama and Romney campaigns on Fox News Sunday. However, while the guest lineup may have been fair and balanced (never a given), the scrutiny over Medicare platforms was not.

Fox News Doesn't Want To Talk About Todd Akin's Rape Comments

Posted by Ellen · August 20, 2012 5:35 PM · 15 reactions

Right now, Republican Todd Akin is the 6th hottest Google search in the United States, thanks to an uproar over his anti-abortion comment, "If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole (pregnancy) thing down." But you'd probably not know that if you get your news from Fox. In fact, some might say the 'fair and balanced" network is deliberately ignoring a very bad day for a Republican senate candidate. UPDATED

Pay No Attention To Those GOP Ties To The OPSEC Swift Boaters!

Posted by Ellen · August 20, 2012 2:11 PM · 1 reaction

Juan Williams guest hosted on The O’Reilly Factor Friday night (8/17/12) where he welcomed Scott Taylor, one of the OPSEC swift boaters against President Obama, for a chat so friendly that Sean Hannity (and Roger Ailes) would undoubtedly have approved. In fact, I suspect Bill O’Reilly would have been tougher on Taylor than liberal Williams. Nevertheless, after ignoring evidence of the group's ties to Republicans and their hyocrisy about keeping sensitive national security matters secret, Williams thanked Taylor for "standing up."

More Muslim Baiting From Fox Nation: "Muslims Gang Rape Colorado Woman"

Posted by Priscilla · August 20, 2012 11:02 AM · 4 reactions

Rape is a horrific crime regardless of the race, creed, or sexual orientation of the rapist. But Fox Nation, in keeping with Fox News's patented anti-Islamic bias, has decided that the religion of five men, charged in a Colorado rape, is relevant. The headline, "Muslims Gang Rape Colorado Woman," links to a Colorado TV site which does not identify the men as Muslims but as Iraqi nationals three of whom have the name Mohammed in the names - a name that is used by both Middle Eastern Muslims and Christians - some of whom are Iraqis. But Fox Nation had decided that they are Muslims. And Fox Nation decided to highlight this rape when there are many that are committed at any given time - many by Christians. If Catholics or Evangelicals gang raped a woman, would Fox Nation include the religious descriptor? If Fox Nation were to ever report on GOP fund raiser Greg Peterson, who will be tried for four rapes and kidnappings, would they identify him as a Mormon? Just saying...

Fox Nation thinks GOP Rep.'s Sea Of Galilee Skinny-Dip Escapade No Big Whoop?

Posted by Priscilla · August 20, 2012 10:17 AM · 3 reactions

One can only imagine the type of exuberant coverage that Fox Nation would give to a story involving a possibly alcohol infused Democratic Congressman who, in the presence of women, dropped trow and plunged into the Sea of Galilee. I suspect that it would be a big, fat lede on Fox Nation with a headline that vilified the congressman in no uncertain terms. This morning, Politico broke the story about a Kansas GOP Rep. who did just that. Congressman Kevin Yoder, on a 2011 trip to Israel, was just so infused with the spirit of the lord (and some communion wine?), that he took a plunge into the Sea of Galilee clothed in only the skin that Jesus gave him. But it's no big deal for Fox Nation which has this headline: Media Ignore National Debt, Go Nuts Over Skinny Dipping." I don't think Fox Nation would be quite this blasé if Democrats had been involved in these kinds of Holy Land hijinks. Ya think!
