Todd Starnes' Leather & Bondage Fetish?

Posted by Priscilla · March 28, 2013 11:02 AM · 2 reactions

Fox Radio's "fundamentalist barking dog" Todd Starnes has finally scored a culture war victory. His constant vigilance against affronts to Jesus loving, homo hating America has finally paid off in that the U of Tennessee pulled state funds from a student event intended to educate and empower students on issues related to sexuality. (Tennessee, I know, pretty radical!). As soon as culture clubber Starnes found out about it, he posted an article on his Fox webpage. Starnes devoted a chunk of his report to the fact that one of the event's speakers is a "noted lesbian bondage expert and erotica author." He then provided lots of information about this woman who was just one of a number of speakers. But then when it comes to leather, we know that Starnes really gets into his subject matter as shown by his observations of male thongs and leather chaps at his local gay pride parade which, according to Starnes, was attended by "angry lesbians," so there's that too....

Bill O’Reilly Calls On Christian Soldiers To Help Fight The War On Easter

Posted by Ellen · March 27, 2013 11:41 PM · 8 reactions

Bill O’Reilly is still hippity-hoppiting mad about the War on Easter. He’s so upset about people not calling the Easter Bunny an “Easter Bunny” that he wishes Christians would form an organization like the Anti-Defamation League to fight such discrimination. Because not saying “Easter Bunny” is right on a par with anti-Semitism. Even though O’Reilly acknowledged that the Easter Bunny is not a religious symbol. It must be the principle of the thing. Or something.

Fox & Friends Validates Texas Mom's "Outrage" Over Test That "Blames US" For 9-11

Posted by Priscilla · March 27, 2013 6:37 PM · 6 reactions

Fox News is a strong advocate for Texas education - but the education that they're supporting is the one that teaches students a right wing version of US history - one which lauds the red baiting Sen. Joe McCarthy, requires that the "violent" nature of the Black Panthers be taught alongside the history of the Civil Rights movement, takes Thomas Jefferson out of the Enlightenment, and depicts America as a "Christian Nation." This revisionist history, fully supported in a week long Fox & Friends series in 2010, is now official. But all isn't well for Jesus' patriotic BFF's. Recently a Texas mom, in checking her son's school papers, was stunned and amazed that the correct answer, to a question about the reason for terrorism, was OMG that not everybody approves of America's foreign policy. The text is part of a curriculum that Texas right wingers are upset about. So where better to take her sense of patriotic victimhood than - you guessed it - Fox & Friends!

Carolla And O’Reilly Suggest It Would Be No Biggie To Get Rid Of Food Stamps

Posted by Ellen · March 27, 2013 5:14 PM · 7 reactions

Adam “Don’t Call Me A Racist Just Because I Talk Like One” Carolla visited the O’Reilly Factor for another dose of his “humor” that just happens to malign people less fortunate than he and – oh, yeah – happen to be minorities. Monday night’s target: food stamp recipients. Because Carolla grew up with a mother on public assistance that seems to be all the credentials needed for him to rail against them. With Bill O'Reilly's approval.

Liberal Infestation in Schools Is Worse Than You Think, Says Glenn Beck

Posted by Margarita · March 27, 2013 12:59 PM · 10 reactions

It’s so horrible what goes on in our schools nowadays, gentle reader. Liberal activists teaching our children to stomp on the name of Jesus and blame the US for terrorism – can you believe it? Never fear: Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck are fighting bravely to save kids from  all that left-wing indoctrination. Last night, ex-Fox anchor Beck appeared on Bill O’Reilly's show to vent and kvetch, and to brag about how Fox News was putting the issue in the public eye. They discussed two examples in particular:

Bill O'Reilly: Obama Youth Vote Due To Campus "Political Corruption"

Posted by Priscilla · March 27, 2013 11:47 AM · 7 reactions

It's ironic that Bill O'Reilly has an advanced degree in journalism when his nightly spew is the antithesis of real journalism. If any professor of journalism needs an example of propaganda disguised as journalism, he or she should use "The Factor," in particular Bill's "Talking Points" as an example of how to get the most bang for your buck when you're engaging in vicious personal attacks framed in short sound bites. Monday night's "Talking Points" was very instructive as they provided Bill with the opportunity to bash one of his favorite targets, librul higher education, while issuing a new fatwa that, like his last fatwa (the editor of the Denver Post) is an African-American man. Not only does Bill report, he divides!

Bill O'Reilly To Speak At "Bible Thumping" University?

Posted by Priscilla · March 27, 2013 10:29 AM · 4 reactions

Bill O'Reilly's spiritual journey seems to have taken an interesting evolution (pun intended).  In the space of a few years, he has gone from being a self-proclaimed creationist who claimed that Jesus guided evolution and that the tides are not based on gravitational pull to the more modern position of the bible as "allegory" - a position about which he lectured a fundamentalist pastor. He compared those who disagree with his view to jihadists. And last night, in kinda, sorta defending proponents of gay marriage, he said that "other side hasn't been able to do anything but thump the bible." So there is rich irony in the fact that O'Reilly will be speaking, in September, at Faulkner University, a university founded as a bible school and which has a "biblically based core curriculum." Go figure!

Megyn Kelly Lectures Black Americans About Personal Responsibility

Posted by Ellen · March 27, 2013 3:18 AM · 6 reactions

Megyn Kelly didn’t just slobber over African American Dr. Ben Carson’s admonitions about playing the victim card yesterday, she actually read one of his favorite poems called, “Yourself to Blame” to drive the point home. And then, after he left, she brought up one of her own favorite sayings: “winners take responsibility, losers blame others.” She didn't single out any particular group but there was no doubt from the rest of the discussion that she was directing her lecture to African Americans – even though it was almost certain none were watching.

Fox’s Solution For Lack Of Retirement Savings: Scrap Social Security!

Posted by Brian · March 26, 2013 6:52 PM · 3 reactions

Last weekend, Forbes on Fox focused on the record number of workers who don’t have enough money to retire. According to host David Asman, this proves “why we need to ditch Social Security” for younger people.

Fox Ignores Its Own Reporting To Promote Bullet Conspiracy Theory

Posted by Ellen · March 26, 2013 6:07 PM · 1 reaction

Fox News is so eager to promote anti-Obama/pro-gun conspiracy theories that it overlooked its own reporting in the process yesterday. Think Progress caught Megyn Kelly yesterday just "asking" her Republican guest, "Is the government buying up bullets to use against us?" Even though Fox itself had already debunked that likelihood. (H/T Eric J.)
