Brit Hume, who "totally disputes" campus rape statistics, seems to believe that campus rape happens because "boys will be boys." And he also seems to believe that safe spaces for sexual assault victims, such as one set up by Brown University, are just so silly!
One of Fox News very important right wing propaganda meme is that colleges, particularly Ivy schools, are hotbeds of silly political correctness (another very important Fox object of derision). In the real world, political correctness is a way of thinking that is based on consideration for others; but, in Foxworld, it is an insidious plot to stifle real Americans who want to say racist and sexist stuff in public.
Usually, the anti-political correctness meme has been sourced from the right wing Campus Reform and then pimped on Fox & Friends (think Tucker Carlson). But on his new nighttime show, Brit Hume has been quite eager to book-end the Fox day with these right wing talking points.
Last week, during his "Campus Craziness" segment, Hume reported on how "safe spaces," at several colleges, are exclusionary and just downright silly. Working in the requisite anti-Ivy attack, he proceeded to attack Brown University. He informed us that the NY Times reported that Brown set a space "that was equipped with cookies, [he chuckled] coloring books, bubbles, play dough, calming music, pillows, and [more chuckling] a TV video of frolicking puppies."
WHAT HUME DIDN'T SAY was that this safe space was only a temporary place that was set up by students to provide a respite, during a discussion of sexual violence, for those who found the discussion to be troubling. Hume also didn't say that this was done in March of 2015.
Campus craziness, indeed!
However, maybe it’s because I’m not feeling well at the moment [seriously], but these Hume sound bites don’t give me enough context to know what the heck he’s talking about. Further, they smell worse than typical Fox 1/2 truths. Maybe 1/4 truths?
