In what was another reminder that Fox & Friends is a right wing Fox "opinion" show, this morning's edition featured a group of Republican congresswomen whose discussion of women's issues (doesn't include reproductive) was just another partisan forum for Obama bashing and GOP/Fox talking points!
Sandra Smith began the propaganda session: "Giving a voice to women, with real conversation about what concerns them..." The banner: "What Women Want, Conversations About What Really Matters to Women." She noted that this is "the goal of the "Women2Women" tours across the country." What Smith didn't say is that Women2Women is described, on its website, as "something refreshing on the conservative landscape." Its "main street advocacy" is a litany of right wing, free market oriented talking points. Its founder, Sarah Chamberlain, is a GOP activist.
Smith introduced her guests, all of whom are Republican congresswomen and, drum roll please, Sarah Chamberlain. To Smith's question of what the ladies want from presidental candidates, Renee Elmers spoke about how these GOP gals want "problem solvers" which is what they heard on their tours and (agitprop alert) something they haven't seen in the Obama administration. Ileana Ross-Lehtinen said that "women from across the nation" have told them that "they've had enough of this administration, leading from behind..." She asserted that they want a leader "who will be respected around the world."
After asking if there are "issues that are more important to women voters right now," she lead into right wing talking points by answering her own question: "Terrorism seems to top the list." As part of Smith's call and response, Chamberlain said that they have determined that "terrorism is the number one issue in this country for women" along with education and mental health.
Smith cited the new NBC poll which found that women are angrier than men. In order to continue the Obama bashing, Mimi Walters provided her own spin about why women are upset. She said that "women are more upset about the failed policies of this president." But, according to the pollsters, women "are more likely than men to be angry about the treatment of others" and women are also "are angry about the way they are treated." She claimed that women are worried about their finances and (agitprop alert) "the policies of this president are making it very difficult for us."
Rep. Susan Brooks (was identified as Sarah Chamberlain) spoke about the newest white people's problem, opiate addiction. She accused Obama of not doing enough. Elmers informed us that women care about all issues, especially national security, their families, and healthcare. (So let's repeal the ACA and defund Planned Parenthood both of which benefit women, especially poor ones!) Smith thanked the ladies for telling us what women want to know.
Neither Smith nor the ladies mentioned women's concerns about reproductive rights which are being rolled back by the GOP. (No Republican "war on women," right?) Nobody mentioned women's concern about affordable child care and parental leave. Nobody said anything wage inequality or minority women's issues. (Where was the one, African-American GOP congresswoman Mia Love?). But then these women are Republican and this is Fox News....
I am so glad the women in my life are ALL Democrats. This cluster of misfits look like such imbeciles, even the yucky nag that got elected to public office from some deep red part of upstate New Hampshire.
Beau went so crazy he started babbling complete idiocy about Muslim terrorists crossing our southern border. Contrary to any evidence but the curvy couch crowd just smirked, enjoying the moment. 👍
I’m ever so grateful for fair and balanced “Fox And Friends” taking a timeout from their continuous stream of GOP campaign stops to softball a bunch of Republican women.
