Trayvon Martin's death has brought attention to racial inequities on a national scale. Rather than confront the reality of being black in America, the racist right wing now claims that any discussion of racial issues is racist. Moreover, they are seizing on any incident, in which black males have engaged in criminal behavior towards whites, to say that these assaults are motivated by black racist hatred. They demand that black leaders address these supposed hate crimes which can't, under any circumstances, be compared to a killing that is part of a long tradition of whites profiling and killing blacks because of racist hatred. Recently, in Oklahoma, a white man was allegedly killed by a mixed race group of teens. The racist right wing (including Fox's Todd Starnes) is racializing the incident and asking if the President, who, I guess is responsible for the behavior of the entire African-American community, will speak out about this heinous act which doesn't appear to be a hate crime. Predictably, Fox & Friends stoked the flames of white, racial resentment in claiming that all three shooters are black when one is Hispanic and the other white. But this is a Fox "opinion" show so it's all good...
The killing is quite horrific. In what appears to have been a "thrill kill," three teens targeted an Australian who was here in the US on a baseball scholarship. After the Australian press identified the suspects, the right wing blogs immediately ran with headlines that described all three youth as black. Drudge's headline was "Bored Black Teens Kill White Baseball Player for Fun." Even after it was disclosed that one of the boys is Hispanic and the other white, The Daily Caller's banner was "Black Teens In Oklahoma Murder White Jogger for Sport" under a photo in which included the white teen. So the stage is set and enter, stage white and right, Fox & Friends.
This morning, Steve Doocy set the stage for this "hot topic all across America." He showed a photo of the victim and stressed that he was "murdered" (no actual verdict yet.) He then showed a photo of the three young men as he described the accusation against them and described how the African-American kid "apparently danced and laughed as he was carted off to the police department." Brian Kilmeade said "as far as Chris Lane, a guy who was shot by three black teens, arbitrarily shot; but that didn't stop Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and President Obama from weighing in." Photos of Sharpton and Jackson were shown while crickets chirped. Ainsley Earhardt said "we're still waiting on the tee-shirts." Steve Doocy wanted to know where Al Sharpton was because "he's so good at starting rallies for people." Kilmeade interjected "the Duke Lacrosse non rape story." (So, I guess, Christian right leaders wouldn't defend one of their own who was allegedly victimized?)
Advancing the blacks are thugs meme, so popular in the racist right wing, they showed a picture of the black suspect holding a gun which, when held by white guys like Ted Nugent, is considered sacred. (Ewww scary black man). They showed a tweet from acceptable black man, Allen West, who described the shooters as three black men. (West, as you recall, had some problems related to gun use while in the military). West asked "who" Pres. Obama will identity with. Steve Doocy opined "once again, probably crickets."
Of all the lies and propaganda pushed by Fox & Friends, this has to be the worst that I've ever seen and I've seen a lot. First of all, the race of the alleged perps is not relevant to the story. Unlike Fox News, which is focused on the race of the boys, when mainstream media mentions it, if they mention it at all, it is as an informational point. Second, the racial makeup of the group has been available for at least a day. Photos have been circulated which show the white boy; but Fox & Friends didn't use the photos. It's really ugly. Not for nothing is Fox & Friends the "morning happy-talk show that Ailes uses as one of his primary vehicles to inject his venom into the media bloodstream." And this time, the "venom" is straight up racist.
Just Google around with it- There’s no shortage of instances, and while some are hoaxes, many of them are real. Only standing problem is that there’s no one-stop shop, so you get to fact-check each one individually, and hope you never mix them up, because his defenders will never let you hear the end of it if you slip.
Also, each author kinda only focuses on one thing. So you’ll get a few that talk about his Mexican comments, a few that talk about his black comments, and a few that only talk about his “If I did it” moments. Bring a bucket if you hit one talking about his views on women.
Bottom line: Zimmerman may have helped a few black kids, but if he didn’t like someone who was black or another nationality Latino, he profiled the crap out of them. To the point of just flat racial stereotyping. And he still has friends who are more than willing to enable it.
These same people had every excuse in the book for how that couldn’t count as evidence that he was a racist, and even showed their support for campaigns demanding those comments to not be allowed as evidence of his character in court.
Trayvon Martin’s “gansta photos”? Yes.
George Zimmerman saying he wants to kill blacks and other Latino nationalities, and bragging about getting away with crimes against them? No.
Yeah… Black America was all kinds of behind that.
So anti-white tweets indict “black America.” Guess heterosexual America was to blame for the violent death of Matthew Shepherd and white America was to blame when a bunch of white, racist skinheads dragged a black to death in Texas.
Racist Post Fail – although as representative of the mindset of a particularly retrograde right wing American, it was an astounding success!
“about this heinous act which doesn’t appear to be a hate crime.” It doesn’t? Their tweets about HATING white people and then proceeding to kill a white kid “for the fun of it” doesn’t deem this a hate crime? Or do hate crimes only apply when the victim is any other race other than white?
Hey! I know! Let’s start a defense fund for these poor helpless repressed black murders (but not the white kid involved in the crime…screw him and his probably rich white family)!
This article is an insult to my intelligence. It’s baffling.
Thanks to the hard work of the Newshounds, we are already very much aware of what THEY ‘know’, and we are also painfully aware of what they DON’T know. These trolls are embarrassingly ignorant and scared, especially of knowledge. Just the way Fox likes ’em!
Once again, these frauds were caught in a bold face lie. Let’s see how the amateur producers spin this lie in their little war room at Fox “News.”
NOTE TO THE AMATEUR SENIOR PRODUCERS & PRODUCERS
College journalists are better than you cafeteria Catholics. You clowns couldn’t produce a rabbit out of a hat.
Such as that Zimmerman was profiling all the local blacks because the suspects in area break-ins were black, his history of racist comments and jokes, comments made by his father and brother (which indicates this is a family mentality), and that Zimmerman freely admitted he began following Trayvon because he fit a “type.”
That’s fact, and that’s a strong case that Zimmerman profiled. What case does Uncle have, other than what he apparently was told by Fox News?
Oh, and please stop with the whole “You haven’t answered my question” meme. Your questions were answered, just not the answer you want, so you rephrase it and pretend you’re getting some kind of tally.
It’s pathetic, especially considering that you had absolutely no problem ducking my question: Since Fox News is so obsessed with racializing this, why do they refuse to talk about the spree killers in Tulsa? They also said they did that out of boredom, and admitted racial resentment towards blacks. Shouldn’t Fox News cover the Tulsa police getting caught lying about that part? Check the link- CBS had no problem asking why those shooters would admit it, then the police would claim they didn’t.
Oh, wait- I know… You didn’t answer me because you can’t think of a way to do it without letting it slip that you approve of Fox’s double standard. Don’t worry- We already know.
And hey- Since he knows so much about both this case, and Fox News, maybe he can explain how it’s so different from the case I cited. Other than that those shooters are a white guy and a Zimmerman lookalike.
Oh, right- Since that’s the only difference to Fox, that’s also the only difference to their apologists.
