In the Orwellian world of Fox News, concepts that have a generally accepted meaning are turned upside down. Black is white, good is bad, and objecting to intolerance is - wait for it - intolerant. Nowhere is this bizarro world zeitgeist more apparent than Fox News' attempt to define, as intolerant, those who oppose the president of Chick fil-A's connections to homophobic hate groups and his comment that gays are bringing down the wrath of God - a comment which is, basically, another iteration of the "God Hates Fags" meme popularized by the Westboro Baptist Church. Fox's Chick fil-A's crusader-in-chief, Mike Huckabee has been preaching the Fox doublespeak gospel of tolerance which, in denigrating those who oppose Chick-fil-A's "biblical values," serves to reinforce the Christian right belief that gays are scum. And is so doing, during his interview with Juan Williams on "The Factor," he praised the SPLC designated homophobic hate group, the Family Research Council, as a paragon of family values - values held by former minister Huckabee who doesn't exactly practice the tolerance that he's now preaching. But yeah, if you criticize those who hate the LGBT community, like the FRC, you're the bigot. Party like its 1984.
Some of Huckabee's homophobic hits:
*He supported the candidacy of Gary Glenn, head of the Michigan Family Association (the national AFA is an SPLC designated hate group) for US Senate. Glenn has said that companies shouldn't hire gays because of the medical consequences and that homosexuality should be criminalized.
*Huckabee said he was "proud" to stand with the virulently homophobic Bryan Fischer who is head of the American Family Association.
*He has called homosexuality an "aberration" and has said that same sex marriage is a "threat" to society.
*He compared legalizing same sex marriage to legalizing drug use, polygamy, and incest.
*He opposes same sex marriage because of the "ick" factor.
*Wants "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" reinstated because he thinks the troops don't want it. (wrong)
*He said that the governor of Iowa should defy the Iowa court decision on same sex marriage. (Real respect for the judiciary there!)
*And he pals around with radical right wing Christian evangelist Janet Porter who says that gays are "enemies of God." (Bringing down God's wrath?)
And some gems from the Family Research Council
*Their president, Tony Perkins, says that anti-bullying campaigns are bad because they provide "active affirmation of homosexual conduct and their efforts to redefine the family." (That ole "gay agenda" thingie).
*Research fellow Tim Daley links homosexuality to pedophilia.
*Senior Research Fellow Peter Sprigg promotes reparative therapy for gays (programs, like Exodus International, that Dan Cathy contributes to) and advocates criminalization of gay "behavior."
*Perkins said that hate crime laws are a "sign of chaos" in America.
Right Wing Watch has lots more.
But in the Orwellian world of Fox News, those who oppose this religiously based homophobic bullshit are considered the intolerant ones. Black is white, up is down, and we all love Roger Ailes.
But if you think this is sheer bigotry, think again. In the Orwellian Foxworld, you're being intolerant!
