Fox host Tucker Carlson seems to think that smearing opponents of Indiana’s “religious freedom” act makes him look more tolerant.
Carlson was part of a Special Report “All-Star” panel discussing the Indiana law that has caused quite an uproar. Rather than defend the law, Carlson focused on attacked its critics.
CARLSON: The demagoguery around this is really nauseating. …We’ve always made exceptions for religious minorities. Quakers can become conscientious objectors, so you have a country where religious minorities get to choose which wars they fight in, but not whether to serve cupcakes at a wedding that would violate their religious principles? It’s insane.
…These are absolutists, these are jihadis, these are people who want to make you obey. …They will crush you.
…As one of my editors, one of the smartest people in my office, Jim Antle said, today’s liberals are very much like the stereotype of yesterday’s social conservatives. They set the societal norms and anyone who deviates from them is punished. That’s not tolerance, that’s authoritarianism.
His comments seem unlikely to assuage anyone’s concerns about LGBT rights under the new law.
