Fox’s The Five treated the capture of Benghazi suspect, Ahmed Abu Khatallah, as little more than a chance to rev up another round of attacks on President Obama.
Instead of gratitude or appreciation that the alleged ringleader of the World’s Most Significant Terrorist Attack (as Fox would have you believe) had been captured, co-host Andrea Tantaros’ first thoughts were, “This comes 641 days after the president vowed to bring the killers to justice. …This guy may have been hiding in plain sight. …Somehow, the Obama team just caught up with him today.”
Co-host Greg Gutfeld seemed unhappy that Abu Khatallah will be brought to the U.S. to stand trial, as opposed to Guantanamo Bay, and will probably “never see the death penalty.” Tantaros, however, noted that there have been nearly 500 successful prosecutions in federal court and said she would rather have him “rotting in a (US) prison” than “doing yoga and watching the World Cup in Gitmo – only to be released at the end of this war by President Obama or traded.”
Co-host Bob Beckel continued his refusal to discuss Benghazi, though he did note that it took 5,000 days to capture Al Capone.
Guest co-host Tom Shillue saw a conspiracy: “I wouldn’t put it by them – timing this capture – obviously this guy was easy to capture, he was there for the picking. So they said, “let’s wait and capture him when the going gets tough.” He offered absolutely no evidence for such a theory. Nor was any asked for.
It wasn’t until almost 7 minutes into the 12-minute discussion – right before they moved on - that Tantaros pointed out that the chances of a more successful prosecution for more crimes are much better in federal court than at Guantanamo Bay.
