When Real Time guest Matt Welch, editor-in-chief of Reason, praised Megyn Kelly as one of the few people who can hold Donald Trump's feet to the fire in a live interview, host Bill Maher set him straight.
MAHER: Megyn Kelly? Excuse me, can we go through this bull*** for a second?” Megyn Kelly asked him one tough question at the debate. One tough question. And then, of course, the stupid media anoints her as a genius, because she asked one tough question.
For months, he's just belittling her. "She's on the rag, she's an idiot, she's a bimbo. Her ratings are terrible."
Then she comes begging him for an interview where she says, "Nothing is gonna be out of bounds." You know what was out of bounds? Journalism. She didn’t ask one tough question. It was a profile in cowardice.
For the record, I have seen Kelly do some good work questioning Trump in other segments. But everything Maher said about her Trump interview was spot on. Ditto for the "stupid media" anointing her without examining her complete record.

Friday’s show was a pretty good one and here he’s making the point I often make: the so-called “liberal mainstream media” isn’t so much.
FOX News, Rush Limbaugh, etc. have convinced willing right-wing rubes that their data-mined ‘news’, speculation, conspiracy theories, rumors, and opinion posing as facts are the real truth and anything which contradicts it is a liberal lie.
The reality is progressives like Bill refer to the mainstream media as being “corporate” and only in search of profits. In the pursuit of profits, they often do a conservative take on stories to defend their turf or to appeal to the whims of their audience.
I also agree with Bill the mainstream media treats right-wing propaganda factory FOX as if it was actually a news agency, a peer. No pile of bulls—t could be deeper.
