Tomorrow is the anniversary of Roe v Wade, the landmark SCOTUS decision which established a woman's right to an abortion. Every year, on this anniversary, those who want to take us back to the days of back-alley abortions converge onWashingtonfor their annual "March for Life." As Fox is the mouthpiece for the "pro-life" movement, it's not surprising that they would report on the march. But beyond just reporting on the event, alleged Fox "news" anchor, Shannon Bream brought us a little tear jerker that is part of a growing narrative of those who seek to curtail women's reproductive freedom. That narrative is the tale of those who supposedly "survive" abortions. And not only is it a tear jerker, it's quite effective at raising money at the various churches where these supposed survivors speak. Today, LibertyUniversity grad, Shannon Bream interviewed one such "survivor" as part of her coverage of the "pro-life" (not anti-abortion) "big event." Praise Tim Tebow.
Bream showed a short clip of a "unique" "survivor's" story which is being done "in hopes of saving unborn lives." Melissa Ohden, who claims to have somehow escaped the clutches of an abortionist, talked about how this "changed her life." She, with a little catch in her voice, said how phrases like "it's my body" and "it's a choice" are hollow because "it's a child's life." She asserted that if she had "died," her daughter would never had been born. (And if her parents didn't have sex on the night they did, she might not have been conceived). Large photos of her baby were shown as she spoke. She whined about how future generations will be lost to abortions. Bream, lovingly, thanked her for sharing her unique perspective.
So OK, tomorrow is the March for Life so I understand why Fox would want to do a nice anti-choice story. There is also an annual March for Choice. So, in the interests of being "fair & balanced," I'm expecting to see Bream interview, oh say, a woman who almost bled to death in a back alley abortion in the "good old days" pre-Roe. Or maybe an interview with Planned Parenthood president, Cecile Richards about the importance of keeping abortion safe and legal. Ya think!
Oh, and BTW, according to Ohden, she found out about this botched abortion from her older sister. And that, as was said in Ed Wood's immortal "Plan 9 From Outer Space, "proves it."
