Fox’s Oliver North channeled Dick Cheney as he used The Kelly File as a platform to fear monger about a nuclear attack. Only in this case, the threat is from Iran. And even though North offered no evidence to back up any of what he said, host Megyn Kelly made no challenge of any of his assertions. In fact, she helped.
In the middle of a Kelly File discussion last night about threats from ISIS, Kelly said to North, “I know your biggest concern now is a nuclear bomb.”
North replied:
Yeah, I think – look, where we’re headed – and this is gonna be the next catastrophe. In two more weeks, they’re gonna announce the deal that (President Obama) and Kerry have already negotiated with the Iranians. Everybody’s gonna slap each other on the back. And the Iranians are still going to get a nuclear bomb.
How does North know that? Kelly didn’t ask. She kept her thoughtful-listening face on and let him continue, uninterrupted.
…I just think that what we’re looking at - because neither he nor Mr. Kerry – and this trip that he’s just made in the Middle East – would deny that they’re gonna sit down and talk to the Iranians. That makes us very vulnerable. The Iranians are not our friends. They are our enemies. And everybody else in that part of the world is looking at it and they know that they’re the enemy and what we’re doing is basically making it easier for them to reopen their supply route from the Iran/Iraq border all the way out to al Kahin, …now in the hands of ISIL. And so if they’re going to somehow re-establish the Shiite government, whether it’s Maliki or somebody else, they are gonna have to re-open that route across Iraq in order to support al-Assad in Damascus and Hezbollah on the Lebanese border.
And how, exactly, does that represent a nuclear threat to us? North never gave an explanation and Kelly did not ask for one.
Watch the fear mongering below.
I have to admit though, North’s unique air of sanctimoniousness, omniscience and faux patriotism is particularly nauseating.
