Fox News contributor George Will, in an October 30 column, called the Citizens United decision “excellent.” As Media Matters pointed out, that puts Will to the right of even Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
Media Matters aptly described the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision as “one that allowed a tsunami of corporate money to enter the election process.” But it also noted:
But even Citizens United noted the corrupting danger of unchecked money in the political system, and transparency was explicitly recognized as the critical protection against such a problem.
Furthermore, Media Matters also quoted criticism of the decision from none other than Justice Antonin Scalia:
For my part, I do not look forward to a society which, thanks to the Supreme Court, campaigns anonymously...and even exercises the direct democracy of initiative and referendum hidden from public scrutiny and protected from the accountability of criticism. This does not resemble the Home of the Brave.
No wonder Will left ABC News for Fox.
