Fox News capitalized on the news that college spring break could deter Bernie Sanders voters from the polls – by showing footage of women shaking their things in skimpy bathing suits.
On Monday, Politico reported:
This year’s spring break schedule clashes directly with a large swath of primaries and caucuses, a conflict that comes at the worst possible time for Sanders, who crushed his rival Hillary Clinton among young and first-time voters in the exit polls in Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada. The Democratic race is about to enter a four-week stretch where more than half of the party’s delegates will be awarded. But as the voting gets under way, one campus after another is closing down for weeklong breaks. In all, more than half a million college students from 14 states will be on spring break at the same time that the presidential campaign train chugs onto their campuses, according to a Politico analysis of the March 5 to March 26 primary and caucus states.
That same day, Fox News “business show,” Your World, acknowledged that it used the story as an excuse to show salacious video.
Host Neil Cavuto teased an upcoming segment by saying, "You know that Bernie Sanders attracts the young. I mean, in overwhelming numbers they come to him. Well, some bad news for Bernie Sanders. Spring break is occurring in the middle of some crucial contests, which allows us to run some shameless video."
Following was a clip of bikini-clad women thrusting their butts at the camera.
Two minutes later, in another tease, Cavuto said, "They are young, they are restless and they are Bernie Sanders’ core, but here's another thing. They are soon going to be on spring break when Bernie needs ‘em most. Yikes!"
Of course, that was cause for more beach footage.
