Fox News contributor Tammy Bruce found a way to blame Democrats for Donald Trump’s shocking suggestion that “Second Amendment people” do something about Hillary Clinton if she wins the election.
In case you missed it, here’s what Trump said about Clinton: “If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know.”
Fox Business host Charles Payne opened a discussion about Trump’s remarks by suggesting it was a made-up controversy by the media.
PAYNE: Donald Trump in hot water with the media once again. Earlier today, some are characterizing his remarks as an implication, a threat of violence against Hillary Clinton.
After noting the differing responses from the Clinton and Trump campaigns, Payne asked, “Manufactured crisis or did Donald Trump say something that people should be worried about?”
Bruce got to defending Trump – by blaming the Democrats.
BRUCE: What we’ve seen time and time again, is Hillary, the Democrats either making stuff up out of whole cloth. You have a drama because he makes a joke about a baby in a rally. When you’ve got a situation with Hillary Clinton who is saying and doing things that are obviously dangerous, have caused the death of people and in this particular case you heard the quote for yourself.
What I heard immediately was the power, politically, of the NRA, of gun owners in this country, to have an influence on government as it’s unfolding. And I think maybe it’s a little bit of projection on the Democrats part when it comes to what they hear from him, what they want to hear from him and what they want to tell other people to listen for. I think it’s false. I think it’s clear what he’s done and I think that this is another indication of the degree to which the Democrats will go, to not only just be unfair but to lie to the American people.
[...] It’s looseness of interpretation is what it is. It’s not Donald Trump. It’s what everybody else wants him to...
The other guest was Evan Siegfried (not identified as a Republican for Clinton). He reiterated one right-wing excuse for Trump, that he had cracked a joke, albeit an inappropriate one.
Payne interrupted to suggest another right-wing defense, “asking” if Trump had made a suggestion of violence or talked about the power of the NRA.
Siegfried adopted this other right-wing excuse, that Trump meant the NRA, adding that he should have released a statement he misspoke and urged people to move on.
But that wasn’t pro-Trump enough for Bruce.
BRUCE: But he didn’t misspeak. If it was a threat, he would have referred to gun owners. He referred to the Constitution. Maybe he was trying to be careful, he didn't want to mention the NRA specifically so he mentions the Second Amendment people.
Later, Bruce came up with her conspiracy theory, that criticism of Trump is just an attempt to throw him off his game:
BRUCE: They want people to be afraid to speak and when you’re afraid to speak, you’re afraid to even think about the issues. And they want him to not know what to do. It worked with Romney, it worked with McCain, it works with almost all of the Republicans.
[…] I think that what’s important is for the audience to know that it doesn’t even matter who the nominee is. It happens to be Trump. Whatever he says, it doesn’t matter, they will make it up. They will misconstrue it, they will lie about it, and he just has to stay focused.
By the way, this is the same Tammy Bruce who applauded Carly Fiorina when she blasted Trump for his remarks about her looks.
Watch that Tammy Bruce now suggest that criticisms of Trump’s rhetoric are some kind of Democratic plot, below, from FBN’s August 9 Making Money with Charles Payne.
(Fingers crossed)

On the self-hating gay thing that wd mentions, I’m certainly no expert in such matters, but I believe there is a higher propensity for sado-masochism, fetishism and other kinky stuff* amongst those of the LGBT persuasion than in the strictly hetero world – maybe because they have already crossed the biggest no-no line and have fewer inhibitions.
It’s the only way I can imagine why L’s and G’s actually seek out the company of those who loathe every fibre of their beings and would happily pile up the faggots around their stakes. Self-hate and humiliation – nucking futs in my book, but hey, if it gets them through the night…
*Except kiddie-fiddling. That dark cave of kinkiness seems to be an overwhelmingly heteroweirdical pursuit.
I’m a Yank but hardly a history wonk. I do know that some of the talking heads behind the current Republican populist movement like Ann Coulter tried a while back to rehabilitate McCarthy by arguing there really were Communists in our government. Note Bill Maher gave Ann kudos recently for being one of the 1st pundits to back Trump. Hmmm…
Trump has no ideological depth to him. He’s all style over substance. I witnessed Trump developing his political shtick over the years weekly visiting “Fox & Friends” where he was worshipped (like his narcissism needed more feeding) and fed softballs on the politics of the day. That’s how, like his Fox News trainers, he’s expert at pressing the buttons of the angry, white, grumpy old men addicted to Fox.
Trump would say stupid s—t like this all the time on “Fox & Friends” where he got standing ovations.
She went to go teach in Brownsville Texas and she seemed to be happy there. Big place with lots of peacocks. She was a big contributor to the Gladys Porter Zoo.
The commie hunters briefly receded back in to the woodwork during the age of Aquarius, but came out of hiding during the age of Ronnie Raygun.
What was the aftermath of the McCarthy disease like? His disgrace seemed to be total, but what happened with his reds-under-the-bed followers? Nixon seemed to survive OK, the devious prick, but was there a general clearout of others who aided and abetted McCarthy in his shameful witch trials?
To me, that time seems to be the closest parallel to this years farce – it’s interesting to speculate over what the eventual rollout will be between the frothing mouth brigade (Hannity & Friends), the partisan apologists (most other Fox faces included) and the less insane* right wingers? Will there still be a monolithic party for them all to fall in line behind?
- But still horrible, obviously
However, don’t underestimate the stupidity of the American voter. I think Trump understands this and he keeps up the crazy for safety’s sake. Although suggesting assassination is hardly safe.
I think by election day, Trump will have repulsed so many people, that they would rather vote for a stripe assed baboon than Donald Trump.
It’s one thing for Fox to continually apologize for your typical GOPer with foot in mouth disease, but Trump is so many orders of magnitudes worse than even the biggest Republican clowns like Palin and Gohmert who preceded Donald. Plus, as a presidential candidate, Trump’s verbal diarrhea get’s tons of mainstream coverage so Fox can’t contain it within the tiny world of political junkies.
Trump isn’t just trashing the GOP. He could take down Fox with him too.
Too bad there isn’t a mental gymnastics competition in Rio. Tammy is a ringer for the gold. 😉
