Dr. Ben Carson Finally Wises Up And Apologizes

Posted by Ellen -7859.80pc on April 07, 2013 · Flag

Despite Sean Hannity’s racial theatrics designed to cast himself as a white, conservative Martin Luther King (and pay no attention to how he race baits against black liberals) crusading on behalf of the racially oppressed, acclaimed pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Benjamin Carson, it appears that Carson has finally and unequivocally apologized for his offensive comments likening same-sex marriage to pedophilia and bestiality.

In case you missed it, Carson said the following on the Hannity show in late March:

My thoughts are that marriage is between a man and a woman. It’s a well-established, fundamental pillar of society, and no group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality, it doesn’t matter what they are. They don’t get to change the definition.

You may recall that Carson first responded to the ensuing uproar with a sort of non-apology apology “if I offended anyone.” Then he doubled down on his comments and played the victim, saying he had been misconstrued (just a few days after complaining about other people playing the victim card) at the same time that he more or less reiterated the sentiments. Then, Racial Crusader Hannity stepped up.

But, thank goodness, Carson has finally figured out that the only way out of this mess was a sincere apology. On Friday (4/5/13), he issued that apology. From Politico:

“As you know, I have been in the national news quite a bit recently and my 36 year association with Johns Hopkins has unfortunately dragged our institution into the spotlight as well. I am sorry for any embarrassment this has caused,” wrote Carson, who is the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. “But what really saddens me is that my poorly chosen words caused pain for some members of our community and for that I offer a most sincere and heartfelt apology. Hurting others is diametrically opposed to who I am and what I believe.”

“There are many lessons to be learned when venturing into the political world and this is one I will not forget. Although I do believe marriage is between a man and a woman, there are much less offensive ways to make that point. I hope all will look at a lifetime of service over some poorly chosen words,” he said.

On the same day, his boss, Johns Hopkins’ CEO and Dean of the Medical Facility, Dr. Paul Rothman, issued a harsh assessment of Carson’s comments in a letter to the John Hopkins medical community: “(T)ension now exists in our community because hurtful, offensive language was used by our colleague, Dr. Ben Carson, when conveying a personal opinion. Dr. Carson’s comments are inconsistent with the culture of our institution.” However, the letter also affirmed Carson’s “right, as a private citizen, to state his personal views.”

Baltimore Sun media critic David Zurawik, commented:

The letter from Rothman puts an end to the politicized nonsense stirred up by Fox News and Hannity, one of its most compromised hosts. Carson’s words were not misinterpreted, and furthermore, his boss believes they were hurtful and offensive.

Let’s hope Carson is being more sincere in the apology he issued Friday as opposed to the ones he issued last week in interviews with the me (sic), MSNBC and CNN—words that he essentially took back when he attacked “liberals” in a variety of venues this week.

Indeed.

Someone named Joseph West thinks he’s being clever when he writes about me, ““Immigrant Patriot” (why do I get the feeling that the “immigrant” refers to some white guy whose only connection to immigration was a grandparent or great-grandparent?), perhaps you might want to think about why African-American unemployment is so bad.” and then “I trust you’re aware that African-American unemployment has ALWAYS been roughly twice that of whites with it being most exacerbated under right-wing, GOP Presidencies”

My response:
No, Mr. West, sir, with all due respects, I’m aware that only about HALF of what you say is true, because as a lowly immigrant, I was required to learn English as a condition of residency. While you are correct that African Americans get hosed by both sides, the following chart suggests that they are getting hosed MORE now than when the eeevil George Bush was president. You see, sir, I cannot tell a lie.:

http://money.cnn.com/2011/09/02/news/economy/black_unemployment_rate/index.htm

BTW, I am curious how you were able to conclude from me mentioning the FACTUAL plight of African Americans that I was a “right wing teabagger”?

Because you are unaware of who has hosed the black community the most, are we to conclude that you are a left wing muncher?

So, you want more government PROGRAMS to help them? Methinks the only program THEY would want is one that gets them a well paying JOB. Because I can’t lie, PUHLEEZ don’t make me tell everyone who exactly has been running the country for the last several years because of whom JOBS are scarce. I’ll give you a clue, it ain’t George Bush. Sorry, I can’t lie.

Ok, my internet was down, so I’m late returning to this party, but here’s three things for Denny to think about:

1) Fox News and it’s viewers celebrate Martin Luther King day by making racial attacks on him. Every freakin’ year.

2) Dr. King’s Niece Alveda is a volatile homophobe that Fox News escalated into celebrity status. What would he say about that?

3) Here:

http://www.politifact.com/tennessee/statements/2012/jan/23/charlotte-bergmann/another-republican-claims-martin-luther-king-jr-wa/

Now go back and look at the history of civil rights in the US. The Republicans haven’t been there for minorities since the Great Depression. In fact, it’s not implausible to claim that they stopped caring about them past tokenism in the 1920s.

Doesn’t even pretend to stop them from lying that the Republicans have all the major names, movements and marches. Probably because the truth would force them to admit they’re closing in on a century of not caring.

My favorite post today by our token moron:

“Mr. West, i love it when you use the word teabagger..it shows that i have to take the education level down a couple of tics.”

That’s your excuse…..for today?

Every once in a while some ultra-moronic conservative, like Average American Patriot calls MLK, Jr. a Republican. Well, he was not, and his political views were so left-wing he was beyond liberal. I could spend time educating you ridiculously ignorant fools, but what would be the point? There’s a reason why you are so ignorant and conservative. You are just 180 degrees out of phase with reality, which is something we can tell, or at least I can.
Barbara S commented 2013-04-08 16:57:00 -0400 · Flag
Denny, there is no evidence that Mlk was a republic. None.

@ Dennys Diner: “Hey MJ i know i am stupid . . .”

Finally, we agree.

“so why is the King family saying he was a Republican and you saying that he’s not?”

The King Family is not:

According to Fox News, Alveda King has “long argued” that Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican. In contradiction to King’s statement, however, University of Cambridge historian David Garrow stated in a Salon profile of Alveda King regarding Martin Luther King: “King was not only not a Republican, he was well to the left of the Democratic Party of the 1960s [….] It’s also well-documented that Dr. King was a strong supporter of Planned Parenthood."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alveda_King

“are they stupid like me?”

No one’s stupid like you . . .

@ Dennys Diner: “Mr West, why was Martin Luther King Jr and Sr a republican?”

MLK Sr. was — but supported RFK.

MLK Jr. was not:

even if you don t click on the link, it says the Black unemployment rate is the highest in 27 years, and the last time it was that high was in the Carter years(the source is the beareau of labor staticts via CNN) not that racist news network Fox.

@ Ignorant Patriot: “The NAACP said they would not automatically vote for Democrats in future because they have nothing to show for their loyalty.”

Really? You’re an NAACP member/on their BoD?

Plus, I had no idea the NAACP voted as a bloc . . .

“Immigrant Patriot” (why do I get the feeling that the “immigrant” refers to some white guy whose only connection to immigration was a grandparent or great-grandparent?), perhaps you might want to think about why African-American unemployment is so bad. It ALL has to do with the very group you’re suggesting should run an African-American: The Right-Wing. I trust you’re aware that African-American unemployment has ALWAYS been roughly twice that of whites with it being most exacerbated under right-wing, GOP Presidencies which, not so surprisingly, then turn around and want to cut off all the programs which would actually help African-Americans who suffer from such high rates of unemployment. And then, let’s look at how your beloved right-wing has felt about the unemployed (regardless of skin color) during this period of recession. When Obama pressed to extend benefits for the LONG-TERM unemployed, remind me who was most strongly opposed to those benefits? It wasn’t Democrats, but rather your teabagging, right-wing GOPers—the same folks you NOW suggest need to run an African-American for President. Do you REALLY believe, deep down in whatever piece of hardware passes for your heart, that life would improve for African-Americans just because the right-wing decides to run a “token” for President? If you do, you are beyond ignorant (even by teabagging standards).

The RW needs a black man to run against Hillary. The black community is sucking fumes right now with an unemployment rate DOUBLE that of whites and almost HALF their youngsters out of work. The NAACP said they would not automatically vote for Democrats in future because they have nothing to show for their loyalty.
