Sean Hannity aired a two-segment interview with former Vice President Dick Cheney tonight. In the first part, Cheney spent a lot of time explaining his recent remarks that John McCain made a “mistake” in picking Sarah Palin as a VP candidate because she was “not ready to take over.” In the second segment, Hannity made sure to elicit comments from Cheney that President Obama is also not qualified to be President – and did his best to suggest that Palin would have been more qualified.
Hannity opened the subject by asking Cheney if Obama was “prepared for this job.”
“Not by the standards that I would apply,” Cheney said. He described Obama’s experience has having “served a couple of …undistinguished terms in the Illinois State Senate, missed a lot of votes. Ran for the House of Representatives once and got beat. And then ran for Senator from Illinois.” Cheney added, “And his opponent withdrew partway through the race because somebody had leaked some information on a divorce proceeding…“
Hannity said snidely, “I wonder who.”
Cheney added, deadpan, “I don’t know who. It came out of Chicago.”
Cheney continued by describing Obama’s senate career as, “He disappeared for two years. Never heard anything of him while he was a member of the United States Senate. And then all of a sudden, he’s running for President. That was the, sort of the sum total of his quote, experience. He obviously ran a good campaign. He was able to defeat Hillary Clinton. That’s not an easy task… But if I were to apply the standards that I’ve talked about you want in a running mate, Barack Obama didn’t meet that test. “
Hannity said, “Interesting. Governor Palin had far more executive experience than Barack Obama.”
Cheney replied, “That’s true. She was governor for two years.”
Hannity added, “And mayor prior to that.”
By all means, Seanie-poo, have Palin run. Let’s see if the American people agree with you that she’s more qualified.
Later in the discussion, Cheney pushed discredited author Ed Klein's recent book about Obama - the same book that Rupert Murdoch just promoted in a tweet. What a coincidence!
