Sean Hannity purported to host a debate on the refugee crisis but it was clear his only real interest was in exploiting prejudice and frightening Americans into thinking that accepting refugees means allowing ISIS welfare queens into the country.
The guests were Ambassador Nancy Soderberg, former national security advisor to the Clinton administration, and… Andrea Tantaros who has no foreign policy credentials whatsoever.
Guess which guest got the host’s respect and which guest got talked over, interrupted and sneered at?
Soderberg said “It’s the right thing to do” to take refugees. She also insisted that there is no danger of ISIS getting in. “We have the best screening process in the world,” she said. “We’ve got decades of experience of doing this …We’re good at it …I am confident that we can filter out ISIS from these groups.”
But Hannity wasn't interested in why she thinks so or how the U.S. would go about it. He was too busy interrupting her to tell her she was wrong. Of course, Hannity has no foreign policy experience, either. But he thinks ten trips to the Mexican border make him an expert on immigration.
Predictably, Tantaros was in synch with Hannity. Even though her only professional experience is in political communications. Not counting inciting violence by asking her radio show listeners to “do me a favor” and punch an Obama supporter “in the face,” that is. But “Punch” Tantaros “just knows” Soderberg is wrong. Why? Because Tantaros hates the U.S. government. “Why would I trust the government with anything?” she asked. This, from the woman who attacked President Obama for not believing in American exceptionalism enough.
