To Fox News, KY Clerk Kim Davis Is A Bigger Martyr Than Martin Luther King.

To Fox News, Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk who refuses to sign same-sex marriage certificates and has been sent to jail as a result, is a bigger martyr than Martin Luther King.

In a discussion about Davis, host Tucker Carlson called Davis' situation, a "showdown between religious freedom and the rule of law." A large "Fight for Faith" graphic let everybody know which side Fox News is on.

Carlson fed the guest, Pastor Robert Jeffress his talking points. "Your point is that the punishment… may be over the top but Christians who follow their faith, when that faith puts them in conflict with civil authorities, have to be prepared to accept the consequences."

JEFFRESS: That’s exactly right. You know, Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Whenever man’s laws conflict with God’s moral law, we have to obey God’s moral law. But that belief landed Dr. King in a Birmingham jail just as it landed Kim Davis in a Kentucky jail.

Carlson, however, turned Davis into an even bigger martyr. He said “Part of the difference, I suppose, between Kim Davis and Martin Luther King is the reception that she’s received. King was lionized, correctly, as a hero, as a moral leader by the people who run this country who write newspaper opinion columns and appear on television. Davis has been dismissed as a crank. …She’s not a popular figure."

Never mind that King was assassinated, I guess.

"If our forefathers had not been willing to defy government authority, there would have been no American revolution, abolition of slavery or civil rights movement," Jeffress added. He called it “a harbinger of yet to come” because the country keeps moving farther away from Christian/Judeo principles, according to him. “I think Christians are going to have to make a choice to obey God or government. And while it is a noble thing to obey God, there are consequences," he said.

Then, because Davis was not a big enough martyr yet, Jeffress noted that civil disobedience also landed the apostle Peter in jail, Daniel in the lion’s den and Jesus on the cross. He said that Christians “need to understand” that God will ultimately reward obedience to him, but it may not be immediately.

Watch it below, from the September 5 Fox & Friends.

I have to wonder: just how many of those supporting MS Davis refusal to issue marriage licenses based on her religious objection to same-sex couples marrying would support a Quaker government official who refused to issue them gun permits based on a religious commitment to pacifism?

How does someone who has been married 3 or 4 times have the chutzpah to say she won’t issue legal marriage license’s?
Imagine the RW outrage if a secular/atheist/non-believer was refusing to issue marriage license’s to straight couples(or any couples for that matter).
Why does an alleged bible believer only adhere to one of the commandments and statutes, but doesn’t adhere to all of them, as the bible commands?
Because if she said that she wasn’t going to issue a marriage license to a couple she saw eating at Joe’s Crab Shack last Friday, even the other alleged bible believers would think she was cra-cra!
Typical religious hypocrite.

If Kim Davis had been jailed for her beliefs, it would be Christians making all of the noise!

What, you expected something sane and/or intelligent to come out of FNC?

MLK rogue niece Alveda will soon start calling KKKim her “Auntie KKKim.”

Add the racist undercurrent systemic to Fox. Combine that with the anti-social justice of fundamentalist, right-wing “Christianity” (not) spewed at Fox, including right-wing “Roman Catholic” Bill O’Reilly and his Donahue knucklehead clone.

She imposed her religious beliefs into a government job. That Fox still spouts religious freedom b.s. is a reflection of the masses’ unwillingness to counter Fox fallacies with “logic”. 9 out if 10 Media Matters followers can’t name a fallacy. Can’t refute the stupid religion nonsense. Blame Fox Nation? They’re a given. I blame the rest of the lazy public. Lazy " liberals" that don’t even know ‘666’ was a reference to Nero.
Americans couldn’t even do metric, let alone “reason”, “critical thinking”, “logic and the fallacies”.
I did a little ‘social psychology’ (yes I took it) test. I posted and Einstein-endorsed author (add Dewey..) who takes an historical critical look at the history of Cthristianity at a high academic level. I made sure to mention “Einstein-endorsed” each post. Ten posts – no response. (Barrows Dunham, Heroes and Heretics)
Ditto for the Nizkor (Holocaust Project instead of the Mac Fallacy Tutorial) Fallacy Tutorial. Twenty-ish posts of the short and entertaining fallacy tutorial and nada. No “likes”, no nada.
I have a stack of psychology credits. One of America’s primary blocking filters is egotism (an American value). Post something intelligent on say, well let’s pick on one of my favorite sites, MMFA, and " spite" is the first reader response in general. Smarter than the authors of “reason” and the “scientific method”. Without fail.
Fox is a fallacy-producing propaganda vehicle that is both dangerous and effective. It is the modern Goebbels. It must be stopped, and the weapon is logic. Relentless Reason. On religion, Fox is wide open, but their adversaries are impotent on the religion issue. Fox is winning. (The new Pope is truly a blessing, whether you’re atheist or Episcopalian, especially R.C., and in spite of American dumbness on Christianity.)
I follow NewsHounds loyally years later. I have a B.A. in broadcast journalism with a bigger education packed around it. It is not Eyewitless News. (See Ron Powers.) I am sick up to here with Faux “News”. It is not an objective news outlet at all. Period. (I am educated in the fairness doctrine and all that history – we got screwed.)
This is NOT a religious freedom issue as Faux portrays and it is time for the b.s. to STOP. They’re teaching Creationism in schools in 2015! Fundamentalist crap! Literalist nonsense and “liberals” and “progressives” can’t seem to Dick and Jane their way over false interpretation of the Bible. “Inerrant” is highly Errant. Kindergarten. Figure it out.

Rabbit and Fox is an Apache story and nobody looked that up, either. Fox is not the smart one, and NewsHounders would love the tale.

The University of Idaho produced the paradox of both Michael Kirk (FRONTLINE/PBS), and Sarah Palin (Romper Room). Go Vandals!

Miss Davis is being jailed for using government to force others to practice her religion! Murdoch media/Fox networks are standing up for Sharia Law; pure and simple.

Can’t help but wonder what Murdoch Media/Fox Networks would be saying should a Muslim refuse to serve a Jewish customer?!

KKKim can believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster if she wants. However, if she refuses to do the legal duties she is paid by the taxpayers to do, then she should resign or be fired.

Hypocritical position for FOX to take when they have been yelling that President Obama has VIOLATED CONSITUTION LAW while using the Presidential powers contained therein for his office! ALSO all the Republican members of congress they have hosted to WAVE small pocket books of the constitution to admiring cameras! PROCLAMING their undying loyalty to every letter! Now all of a sudden MS Davis thumbs her nose at the HOLY DOCUMENT and FOX runs to support her singing her praises!

If MLK was around today doing what he did back in the sixties, he would be treated worse than Al Sharpton by Faux and the far-right. Far worse than Sharpton. You can only imagine what they would say. Now, to show how accepting and what a big tent they have, the far-right has begun to co-opt his legacy, claiming he was a true conservative. Amazing, isn’t it???

You know, it wasn’t that long ago that neocons were quite dismissive of both Dr. King and his legacy:

http://dwightmurphey-collectedwritings.info/A32-MLK-CR.htm

Now, not only do they attempt to appropriate him for their purposes by insisting that he was a republican, it seems any far right individual, from Glenn Beck to Kim Davis, can now BE Martin Luther King Jr.

Funny how things change . . .
