Could this Fox News hissy fit over Tony Kornheiser kinda sorta comparing the Tea Party and Freedom Caucus to ISIS be any more hypocritical and disingenuous?
In its never-ending trolling for excuses to demonize liberals, Fox News came up with a gotcha against ESPN host Tony Kornheiser. Apparently, on October 23, he said about the House Freedom Caucus, “Are they like ISIS trying to establish a caliphate here?” Clearly, Kornheiser was being hyperbolic, not suggesting that the Freedom Caucus is actually going to go around beheading people.
But that was enough for full-on conservative-victim whining on Fox’s “business block” show Cashin’ In yesterday. Host Eric Bolling complained that Curt Schilling had been suspended by ESPN for comparing Muslim extremists to Nazis. “But I guess comparing Tea Party law makers to ISIS, well that’s OK at ESPN,” Bolling said maliciously.
Panelist Michelle Fields added, “It seems like there is a bit of a double standard.”
“They look the other way on certain things,” Bolling said. Then, because working a swipe at Obama into every discussion seems to be part of a Fox host's job description, Bolling gratuitously said about Kornheiser, “He’s also a golf partner of one President Barack Obama.”
But speaking of double standards... clearly ISIS comparisons are A-OK with Fox News so long as you’re comparing the right group to terrorists. Earlier this week, Fox fave Sheriff David Clarke literally linked ISIS to #BlackLivesMatter. "Before long, Black Lies Matter [sic] will join forces with ISIS to being down our legal constituted republic [sic]. You heard it first here," he tweeted on October 27.
But that hasn’t seemed to make a difference to Fox News. Clarke was booked on Fox Business Network the very next evening. He was also a guest on Fox News Channel's Justice with Judge Jeanine on Saturday night.
Not surprisingly, nobody mentioned Clarke’s incendiary rhetoric on this panel. Instead, Bolling moved on to make yet another racial attack on MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry for her “hard workers” remarks.
Panelist Jonathan Hoenig sneered, “Melissa Harris-Perry has officially jumped the shark on race baiting. …A woman who keeps a picture of slaves picking cotton on her office wall, she has a pretty distinctive view of the world. It’s a view through a racial lens.”
But Clarke’s isn’t, according to Fox. Or maybe Clarke’s racial lens is just the kind that Fox News likes.
Watch it below, from the October 31 Cashin’ In.
I think I properly made my point that “violence” is the real social enemy – “racism” is a mere cover-up; a cowardly excuse to deny another human being his/her basic rights. “Black”, “white”, “liberal”, or “conservative”, – a human being has no right to use his/her own power to deny another human being their own human rights. Neither the public media nor political organizations care to balance themselves with the real issues, and instead they flare people’s tempers with all their noise – like someone frantically and needlessly struggling in quicksand.
It seems to me that you MUST always have the last word. O.K. – I understand. Aside from this I’m quite acceptable to your last line – “Nuff” said on this topic.
Interesting how you edit my quote. Especially how I bolded the fact Rush compared blacks to monkeys and it didn’t make the final cut. Need I mention Rush is the most listened to conservative commentator? What does that say to you?
Emotional is asking you to read the stated principles of #BlackLivesMatter? Seriously?
Maybe emotional is posting hysteria #BlackLivesMatter is a remake of “Animal Farm” which is likening them to Stalin whom Orwell was addressing his book.
Maybe emotional is then fearing #BlackLivesMatter is an attempt by blacks to take over our government like Mandela.
Maybe emotional is accusing them of generating a “social breakdown.” Seriously? Some protests? Interrupting candidates to start dialogues on valuing black lives? A web site? A Twitter hashtag? Yes, America as we know it is truly coming to an end (btw, that last bit is sarcasm).
You rhetorically breached the topic of what I define as “conservative.” Yep, find a mirror. You’re way off the deep end of the pool on this topic.
The anecdotal stories you mention towards the end of your post? Well, they dovetail neatly into my previous comments on conservatives and the roots of their angst over blacks. Find the shoe that fits.
’Nuff said on this topic.
To quote your comment:
“What turned me from being conservative to gradually more ‘progressive’ (as you put it), ironically, was a conservative friend who suggested I watch Rush Limbaugh’s TV show (yes, there actually was once such a thing).”
I don’t really know what your definition of being “conservative” is, but using such extremist views to bolster it – let’s just say I’m actually relieved that you got off that train…
I don’t consider myself “extreme” in my views; and being no youngster, I notice that “extremism” will invariably backfire at some point. Right wing or left wing; extremism is like hurtling a ball full force against a brick wall. The harder the throw – the further it will bounce back.
In serious terms – you gotta see the WHOLE picture for what it is. If you get too emotionally involved in your arguments, it will, at some point, become a senseless waste of time for anybody to argue back. To me it is irrelevant what “Black Lives Matter”‘s platform is on paper. I only see the plain results that emerge from their intervention. Two wrongs don’t make a right, and a “progressive movement for a most legitimate cause” which repeatedly ignores the never-ending cycle of violence it inevitably generates – simply needs to shut down! If I were in control of a “progressive” movement which began to generate the same type of provocation and social breakdown that this movement is doing – I WOULD RESIGN! If this movement would focus instead on IMPROVING DOMESTIC COOPERATION between blacks and other blacks, between black and whites etc… they would accomplish so much more. I myself have had plenty of experiences with blacks, and I know one thing. If you say a friendly “Good morning” to them, and accord them all due respect they deserve as proper human beings, they will respect you in kind. To cite but one example: I once was inadvertently stuck at the Rosa Parks Transit Station in Detroit at 9:30 pm with my luggage. Three male black teenagers came towards me, and began taunting me with questions. I looked them friendly in the eye, and answered them in a serious and polite fashion. They simply wished me well, and told me when my bus would arrive…
I can list many similar cases with others as well.
Forget about Fox News; – today’s media gets all hyped up about “racism” even where it is only imagined. By contrast, they hardly care a dam about violence, and their silence over it virtually encourages more. VIOLENCE IS ULTIMATELY THE BIGGEST ENEMY OF DOMESTIC HARMONY; and, unless the movement takes on proper responsibility, it will find itself struggling endlessly in its own quagmire.

Thanks. I didn’t even delve into Andrew’s views on South Africa.
Also, if my proof-reading skills don’t improve I’m going to have to quit posting. :^)
“Moneys” instead of “monkeys”? Seriously? Get into the way back machine about 25 years and I was called upon my agency to proofread important packages going before the legislature and write huge multi-hundred page grants. Most recently spending 15 years as a programmer with little need to write more than the occasional email and growing lots of gray hair has seen them deteriorate to the skills of a 5-year-old. ;^)
My nephew spent a summer semester in South Africa two summers ago and he loved it. Methinks you are exaggerating if not outright making up your story about that country.
What turned me from being conservative to gradually more progressive, ironically, was a conservative friend who suggested I watch Rush Limbaugh’s TV show (yes, there actually was once such a thing). I was appalled by Rush’s populist demagoguery. What threw me over the edge was a bit he did to get a reaction out of the NCAAP (which, btw, worked) and Rush compared blacks to moneys at a drive thru zoo attacking visitors cars.
Segue decades later and Fox News and other conservative media are playing the same cynical race-baiting game to agitate mostly white cons into hysteria over #BlackLivesMatter.
Come to find over time my friend was angry at blacks because of affirmative action. He felt his job was threatened.
Some cons I know blame most crime on blacks and refuse to visit my city’s downtown afraid they’ll get robbed, raped, and/or murdered. Groups like #BlackLivesMatter scares them so they’re glad to see cops crack their heads. Keep them in line. An unarmed black gets killed? Oh well, teach them to talk back to an officer at a traffic stop. The cons are white so no worries.
The kindest thing I can say is many cons hate blacks just because they mostly vote the wrong way so it’s team sports. Just like a Colts fan hates the Patriots. Only more seriously.
Then there are the real bigots. Love the man, hate the race. Why? Because. You know the type.
So it may not be fair when I see someone as dedicated as yourself or Fox News to smearing a peaceful black civil rights group and assume there’s more to the thinly veiled bs of your talking points than meets the eye.
And it again it is bs. Proof? In your smear you’re comparing apples to oranges. Again, you analogize #BlackLivesMatter to some movement that seized political control of a nation. Not their point. Not remotely.
I don’t expect conservatives to agree with #BlackLivesMatter‘s agenda (e.g., it’s for pro-gay, pro-transgender, for a village concept over traditional marriage) but at least overcome your clear ignorance of the group’s principles by reading them: http://blacklivesmatter.com/guiding-principles/. Keep your arguments real, not based upon hysteria.
I get right-wing Fox News and other partisan sources like to data-mine stuff (often out of context) and hype it up into the scariest thing ever regarding #BlackLivesMatter but please develop critical thinking skills to see through their nonsense.
“The movement could be named Black Lives Matter Too. Which is their point.”
Sounds like a nice gesture! Where exactly have these “noble freedom fighters” ever indicated that white lives matter too?
20 some years ago in South Africa a black civil rights leader was assassinated, and the black leaders DID ACTUALLY MANAGE to keep the main part of their crowd at bay (not in its entirety, but mainscale). They promptly got what they wanted, and new open and historic elections were held for the country. So Nelson Mandella was elected with much fanfare, and the once proud democratic country his since become a jungle. Does 25 daily murders, and another raping on average every 3 minutes impress you? That’s just what happenned there.
By contrast, “Black Lives Matter” fails to show any visible results in curbing violence of its own members, and their platform all but encourages teenage girls to boldly and publicly defy basic social order. (No; they don’t do it directly – they’re not THAT dumb, but that is a basic creation of their platform.)
Literally comparing them to either the Islamic State or to the Bolsheviks is obviously out of proportion with reality, but the concept of irresponsibly bolstering civil violence with unforetold consequences is quite visibly there.

I get it. So much Fox News bias, so little time.
Fox News did post the segment after all (see below). The title of the clip on their web site is “What pushed POTUS to send troops to Syria now?” John Bolton opens with the cliché “too little, too late” and claims Obama is “deploying them with targets on their backs.” Of course, Obama says they’re not combat troops so Pirro assumes they are or is just extending her lead-in editorial (see below) where the chickenhawk suddenly frets they’re in harms way. Yeah, the bs is that deep!
But it gets deeper. Recall Pirro keeps using colored plastic toy soldiers to complain Obama can’t tell the different factions yet whines his sorties aren’t always dropping bombs. Hmmmm, judge, maybe its because we can’t clearly identify the bad guys?
But, like you said, hardliner John Bolton not pimping deploying troops is against his character because his Middle East policy typically is military deployment as the first step of diplomacy. So it’s no surprise Judge Jeanine wraps up trashing Obama’s policy as “wimpy” opening the door for a much larger military force.
The segment is about throwing all the mud the pair can find at the wall to see what sticks (scant little). So anyone with a critical mind watching the show – but I must be jesting since we’re talking fanboys – has to be confused because John Bolton, without providing any detail, says defeating ISIS in Syria strengthens Iran. Iran is bogeyman #1 in his eyes in the region. So, in the end, Bolton is flip-flopping on the entire Obama in retreat meme since now it looks like we need to keep ISIS in the game to defeat Iran. Whatever, man!
You can see this nonsense at “What pushed POTUS to send troops to Syria now?” (http://video.foxnews.com/v/4590110314001/what-pushed-potus-to-send-troops-to-syria-now-/).
Since Pirro subscribes strictly to GOPTV™ “fair and balanced” standards, she follows up with a softball interview of a Republican. I didn’t watch it but I think we all know where that goes. Not to mention her broadly anti-Obama lead-in rant “Why put US soldiers in Russia’s crosshairs?”
I record Jeanine Pirro’s show but I’m often busy or out when it airs and I usually just can’t bring myself to watch her. She is just awful. If Bolton is now complaining about military intervention in Syria, it might be the first war he didn’t love (for other people to fight in, that is). He was one of Fox’s earliest and staunchest drum bangers for war with Iran.
How are ISIS and #BlackLivesMatter different?
#BlackLivesMatter is a genuine grass roots political movement seeking social equality using the typical means in a democracy to change people’s minds: protests, social media (Twitter, blogging, etc.), civil disobedience (e.g., interrupting politicians’ stump speeches), etc.. While ISIS is using force of arms to impose a religious theocracy on the weak. Too subtle for you?
So, to compare #BlackLiveMatter to ISIS is what’s known as “demagoguery.” Or in Rush Limbaugh’s parlance: a talking point. ;^)
I won’t even bother with your “Animal Farm type revolution” crackpot theory because some ideas are too whacko to take seriously. However, it does demonstrate how paranoid some conservatives have grown pondering black civil rights.
Getting back into mainstream right-wing thought, you’ve bought into the ridiculous notion often pimped on Fox News that #BlackLivesMatter is a combination of a black supremist and cop killer group. That’s complete and utter nonsense. The movement could be named Black Lives Matter Too. Which is their point.
Perhaps you can get your head around the idea of tipping points. It’s no secret police have targeted blacks. Even Fox News won’t deny it they just one the practice perpetuated. However, blacks in America have reached a tipping point regarding being targeted by police and are saying enough is enough.
Targeting blacks like occurred in Ferguson has consequences as clearly demonstrated by the statistics in the Justice Department report on the town.
Due to racial profiling across our nation there is going to be proportionately more blacks experiencing violence at the hands of law enforcement even if whites are treated the same in encounters. Public awareness is growing they’re not.
Since blacks are targeted by police, there’s going to be a higher incarceration rate for non-violent offenses. As the Ferguson report demonstrated, blacks not only are more likely to have intense encounters with law enforcement (e.g., cars searched), they’re more likely to have bad outcomes throughout the legal process including the court system. This disparity adversely affects blacks’ economic prospects for a lifetime.
Oh, and you’re spinning a bit about the “brave black demonstrator.” There’s no tie between his story (http://www.wtsp.com/story/news/2015/07/20/black-mississippi-confederate-supporter-dies-crash/30421917/) and #BlackLivesMatter. Unless you expect the group to publicly offer condolences over a pro-Confederate flag guy killed in a car accident linked in no way to the group just because he’s black. Oh, and apparently he wasn’t “driven off the road” but lost control after yelling back at a car of blacks yelling at him. Though, in a separate article, there was no mention of Hervey exchanging words just speeding up because he thought a vehicle was chasing him then he lost control (https://www.rawstory.com/2015/07/black-pro-confederate-activist-anthony-hervy-killed-in-mississippi-crash-after-apparent-car-chase/).
But not ALL black lives matter. The brave black demonstrator who was filmed holding the confederate flag (in Mississipi was it?); subsequently being driven off the road by disagreeing blacks, where he crashed and died, – that life obviously DID NOT MATTER to these “freedom fighters”.
Yeah, it might be time to dust that map off, and update it.
Saw your explanation on posting this in a previous thread. Glad you were able to catch this and flesh it out better than my casual observations. You do your usual fine job of researching the topic and uncovering, other than the fundamental hypocrisy of a Fox News business program weekly being mostly about right-wing partisans trashing liberals then criticizing an ESPN sports program for daring to once trash conservatives, specific and fundamental hypocrisies demonizing one’s political foes with ISIS labels. Not too surprising since hyperbolic Nazi comparisons have long filled this void with both sides, left and right.
I’m also glad you bring Judge Jeanine into the discuss because she’s an extreme right-wing talking head on Fox News which I largely ignore and feel is often off of people’s radar (except within GOPTV™ fandom) .
Coincidentally, doing the Halloween candy handout Saturday (darn liberal Halloween teaching kids to be dependent on handouts!!! ☺) threw my typical dinner out and associated b.s. Saturday night schedule off so when I got home earlier than normal I caught a rerun of her show. Oh my goodness! Judge Jeanine is in the running for being a worse hypocrite than Eric Bolling. The judge has an additional advantage over clown Eric: She’s a lot brighter.
So how many spots have we seen on GOPTV™ where some right-wing chickenhawk is whining Obama isn’t doing some non-specific (but hinting heavily at deploying lots of troops) aggressive action in Syria to defeat ISIS? As Obama (and other Democrats) cave to this pressure, the administration has continually ramped up intervention into our latest bottomless diplomatic sink hole. Not to be appeased – it’s always anything but Obama time on GOPTV™ (another fundamental hypocrisy for Fox who coined “anything but Bush” in the Dubya years) – the narrative morphs to Obama’s stuff is too little, too late.
So the latest news is Obama is sending ~50 special force troops to Syria (http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/us-to-deploy-small-number-of-special-forces-to-syria-in-advisory-role-sources/ar-BBmCOGW?li=AAa0dzB?ocid=ansmsnnews11). Cue a smirking (1st clue her outrage is faux) Judge Jeanine doing a loud editorial lead-in to a super-softball interview of clearly unbiased, totally non-partisan Obama hater John Bolton, GOPTV™’s go-to guy on everything foreign policy.
So you know where this is going. Suddenly the great idea of American boots on the ground in Syria is the worst idea ever.
I don’t tape Fox News any longer so I can’t review the segment (don’t see it on Fox’s site), not to mention I was tired and had a drink or two under my belt, but other than the judge talking down to her audience (who she must realize are low information and down the dementia road) using colored plastic toy soldiers to illustrate the complexity of targeting our enemies, I recall no effort on either Judge Jeanine’s or John Bolton’s part to explain there’s no natural U.S. ally in Syria.
Despite Bolton’s never-ending b.s. we waited too long and the good guys we could have allied with disappeared, there’s little (none?) Fox News analysis of the fact they never likely were strong enough in the 1st place to be useful (hence their natural collapse). There’s no acknowledgement of Fox News’ military as the first line of Middle East diplomacy manly chickhawk meme likely leading to a replay of the Soviets propping up some loser in Afghanistan hunkered down in the capital while controlling practically nothing else. Well, of course GOPTV™ wouldn’t. ;^)
