Fox News wants you to pay no attention to your vanishing 401(k) and global instability in the wake of the U.K.’s Brexit vote. Why? Because it’s such great Republican politics!
As Media Matters noted, the right-wing media is so thrilled at the thought that Brexit is a good omen for Donald Trump’s political fortunes, none of the other ramifications seems to matter.
In the Outnumbered segment below, the hosts did not (yet) specifically paint Brexit as a Trump win but the groundwork was definitely being laid.
In this opening segment, the clue to what was to come was the choice of guest hosts, not one of which had a single credential in global economics, British or European politics or foreign policy: Faux Fox liberal Eboni Williams, Trump operative and actress, Stacey Dash and Roger Ailes’ mouthpiece, attorney Peter Johnson, Jr.
As a split screen showed the Dow Jones Industrial Average down almost 500 points, Johnson acknowledged that “for today” the Brexit vote means “big losses in the stock market.”
Cohost Melissa Francis, of Fox Business Network, does have at Ieast some business and economic background. She gushed, “I think it’s phenomenal that we’re only down 2.6% right now,” as the screen showed the Dow down 474.58. She added, “It is nothing like the rout that so many people predicted and I actually think we may come back a little bit more before the end of the day. Then everybody has the weekend to sit back and decide how they really want to play it.”
Actually, the Dow closed down about 611 points today.
Williams also gushed. “I think this was a bold, I think a brave move on the part of the citizens of the U.K.” She, too shrugged off the financial instability by saying, “To Peter’s point, we don’t know what the long-term fallout will be and neither do they. But I think it says a lot when the people of the U.K. say, 'We are willing to take that chance, we’re willing to take that risk and empower ourselves to be a part of the way we will be governed, moving forward, we’re gonna back our power, we want to be represented in a particular way.'”
But Williams looked like a genius soothsayer next to Dash. She announced that the Brexit vote was proof that everybody should vote for Trump.
DASH: This is extraordinary evidence that socialism just does not work. It doesn’t work. And I think this is perfect. This is perfect for us and if anyone is thinking of voting for Hillary Clinton, they need to look at this and think again.
Not one of the five people on the “fair and balanced” panel disagreed with anyone else.
Watch this hideous display below, from the June 24 Outnumbered.
Forget Stacey. Forget the panel. They’re a pathetic sideshow. A mere echo of the main circus elephant building a nationalist bubble the likes of which America hasn’t seen since the 1930s. Someone please sweep up the trail of verbal diarrhea left by circus elephant Charlie Gasparino. Oh, the stench!
If you’re going to lie go big. So closed-minded propagandist Gasparino pitches the lie the boogeyman “establishment” spewed “propaganda” to remain. Seriously? It’s been widely reported the pro-Brexit crowd repeatedly lied to fearmonger sothe only issue left to propel the electorate in their favor was the issue of fear the immigrants.
Witness the pro-Brexit crowd claimed 60% of the laws passed in Parliament were driven by the EU. A lie. It’s like 14%. Over 300 million pounds a month were leaving the UK for the EU. Another lie. A leading Brexit politician used a bogus picture of a long line of scary looking brown people to pretend they were entering England. Nope. It’s fake. Oh, there’s the same argument we hear here from the bigots: Immigrants are net leaches on government services. Bzzt! Wrong again.
Of course, the biggest lie is it’s about immigrants stealing jobs from the hard-working middle class. So it’s ironic the pro-Brexit crowd were older whites, a large percentage of which were pensioners out of the workforce. Meanwhile young people overwhelmingly voted to stay.
Notice the Foxies never mention referendums are all but inevitable in Scotland and Ireland to leave the UK. Leaders in both have made said announcements so it’s no longer mere speculation.
So with “Outnumbered” lying their asses off to promote the Republican Party’s own nativism it’s no surprise their response to Wall Street’s meltdown is ‘move along, nothing to see.’ Depending on how long Brexit takes this will roil financial markets. Just like the Grexit controversy did a while back.
Unsaid by FOX – of course – was the Brexit crowd was all about spewing right-wing vomit but have no clue on how to proceed. Just like Trump. So anyone listening to Boris Johnson’s victory speech couldn’t miss how surreal it was. Suddenly he’s pimping nothing much will change and let’s take our time. Meanwhile the EU wants to toss the UK out on their ass post haste.
Let’s hope the EU gets it’s way so everyone’s retirement accounts recover quickly. Lucky for me I moved my retirement accounts 100% into cash before the crash. Obviously, I’m a better investor than Charlie.
Ahh, who gives a damn if there is prosperity. Certainly not republicans.
You know how folks talk about the “Great White Hope?” You’re the Great Black Disappointment, because every single time you open your mouth, stupidity falls out. You burp idiocy.
I didn’t realize that Clueless was a biopic.
Well, Stace — it would have been difficult for the Brits to do so, since only “Remain” and “Leave” were on the ballot, and not “Hillary Clinton”.
Oh, who am I kidding: this is coming from Stacey Dash — who apparently thought “Clueless” was a documentary . . .
