Last night, Bill O’Reilly discussed a Fortune magazine list of the top 50 leaders on earth. He and guest Mike Huckabee went over six names on the list, including Angelina Jolie. O’Reilly complained that Jolie is not an effective leader – at least in part because she has not appeared on his show.
The other five people discussed in the segment were Pope Francis, Bill Clinton, Bono, Angela Merkel, and Alan Mulally. O’Reilly made the point both in the segment and in at least one teaser that President Obama was not among them. You could almost hear Roger Ailes chortling off stage.
Huckabee was gracious about all the names discussed. O’Reilly, however, was full of quibbles. He took issue with Clinton because, among other reasons, “He doesn’t criticize his own party and a true leader will. …’Cause Clinton knows how the Obama administration’s screwin’ up. You know he knows. …So that’s not a leader.”
Huckabee, of course, agreed, though he did support Clinton’s inclusion.
The last person discussed was Jolie (at about 5:30). “I have no clue why this woman is on a leadership list,” O’Reilly protested.
Huckabee argued that she and Brad Pitt have done a lot on behalf of human trafficking. “Some people just show up for the photo ops, she actually goes, like Bono does, and does the work,” Huckabee said.
Well, that was not good enough for O’Reilly. Because Jolie hasn't done what he seems to think is the most important part of her work: appearing on his show and/or Fox News. “Here’s my dissent,” he said. “I do not believe Angelina Jolie is getting her message across as effectively as she could if she went on your program, my program, and everybody else’s program. But that would devalue her movie star status. That makes me question this.”
Yeah, right. Because Fox News is such a natural venue for issues concerning international refugees and the U.N. Not!
That said, there’s a very simple reason O’Reilly will never see Jolie, beyond her walking past him at a movie premiere: He’s one of the guys I just mentioned. He couldn’t care less what she does, he’s still stuck on all her onscreen nudity, and how she used to be a Hollywood mistress. The way his eyes sparkled, it was like those Howard Stern clones that book porn star turned women’s rights activist Jennifer Ketcham, just to see if they can bring “Penny” back out to play.
And Fortune? Please- I quit caring what they had to say when Kim Kardashian was a “top leader”, conveniently when there was big money in talking about her. They print whoever there’s the biggest money in bringing up, and a list like this, they’re throw in a few real leaders that it’s safe to praise to try looking legit. The end.
.
Oh, right, Bill. Remind us all of the number of times you criticized Dubya before even your audience was growing tired of the Iraq War he started.
In fact, please remind us all the times that you criticized ANY GOPer in a “leadership” role.
When did you (or any of your fellow FoxNoise talking heads) bother to criticize the GOP leaders who shut down the government not so long ago? When did you criticize ANY GOP “screw ups” that did NOT involve their failure to win an election?
As for Angelina, you really don’t want her on your show. She’d show you for the steaming pile of doggy-doo you really are. I have a feeling we’d see a new record set for how quickly a guest’s microphone was shut off and BillO “going to commercial.” Angelina is NOT shy about speaking her mind when she needs to.
