I guess it wouldn’t be an hour of Monica Crowley if we didn’t get another one of her off-the-wall, anti-Obama conspiracy theories. Last night, as she was guest hosting for The O’Reilly Factor, Crowley didn’t just criticize President Obama’s policy toward Iran, she dug up a former Romney spokesman, hid his affiliation by presenting him as a former U.N. spokesman, and after bitching about Obama having “utterly failed” in Iran, she concluded that Obama’s “whole strategy” has been “to advance our enemies, to support them in ways that we can’t even imagine.” Classy. As usual.
You may recall that Crowley has quite a cadre of intriguing conspiracy theories. My personal favorite is the one where she blamed President Obama for her decision not to eat a cheeseburger. You may also recall that last fall Crowley condemned “attack politics.” But obviously, that’s a case of “Do as I say, not as I do.” Because Crowley was so busy smearing President Obama as doing Iran’s bidding that she couldn’t even make up her mind whether he had failed or succeeded with them on his own, diabolical terms.
First Crowley said:
For the last 3 ½ years, this president has decided he wanted to extend olive branches to our enemies, including Iran and every time he’s extended that olive branch, the Iranians have slapped away his hand, laughed in his face and used the time to build a nuclear weapons program and expand it…
This administration has utterly failed. They have failed in this regard… When I look at the Obama administration’s track record, it seems to me, Rick, that they almost want Iran to have a nuclear weapon.
Almost wants Iran to have a nuclear weapon? Just moments later, Crowley would say she was certain that Obama's "whole strategy" is to “advance our enemies.”
But that wasn’t the only dirty politics coming from Crowley and Fox News. The guest, Richard Grenell, was billed as “former spokesman for U.S. ambassadors to the U.N.” What nobody mentioned was that more recently Grenell was a spokesman for the Mitt Romney campaign - but that gig was short lived partly thanks to Grenell’s mean-spirited twitter feed and mostly because Grenell is openly gay - and Romney kowtowed to the religious right. Sure enough, Grenell couldn’t seem to sneer enough about the Obama administration: “They’ve decided that maybe it’s inevitable that Iran is gonna get a bomb. But at the end of the day, I don’t see any tough actions coming out of the White House.”
But even Grenell couldn’t match the Crowley smear that followed:
Nor will you because unlike Hillary Clinton, I don’t think that this president is naïve. I think he knows exactly what he’s doing. And his whole strategy, including with Iran has been to advance our enemies, to support them in ways that we can’t even imagine. And it’s really appalling because Iran is the greatest, greatest threat to regional and global security.”
No, Monic (I’ve decided to drop the last syllable of her name in response to her insistence on using the word “Democrat” instead of “Democratic”), what’s really appalling is that you will say anything – anything to impugn and denigrate President Obama, even if it means tying yourself into a foolishly hateful pretzel doing so.
