Journalist Tom Ricks is a textbook example of how real journalists and Democrats should handle an appearance on Fox News. Sadly, Bob Woodward could take a lesson.
Media Matters has the transcript:
RICKS: How many security contractors died in Iraq, do you know? ...Nobody does, because nobody cared. We know that several hundred died, but there was never an official count done of security contractors dead in Iraq. So when I see this focus on what was essentially a small firefight, I think, number one, I've covered a lot of firefights. It's impossible to figure out what happens in them sometimes. And second, I think that the emphasis on Benghazi has been extremely political, partly because Fox was operating as a wing of Republican Party.
Oops, time was suddenly up!
By some accounts, Christi was on the phone with Murdoch shortly after that moment of non-partisan leadership, so he’s back in the doghouse so far as I’m concerned.
Really, Twatty? Links?
Anyway, I love how you refer to Petraeus as “Zipper Dave Petraeus” — that’s quite a contrast from 2007, when the Foxies got in a lather after MoveOn.org’s “Petraeus or betray-us?” ad:

These frauds didn’t know what was coming to them during this interview. Ricks was well-prepared in his comments. A standing ovation for a job well done.
Ricks knows he will not be asked back on Fox “News.” That doesn’t matter because the message was clear: Fox “News” is the public relations of the Republican Party.
Expect others to call them to the carpet.
It might be premature to say they’ll be around much longer, their ratings are way down since the election, and News Corp is falling apart. But this will be a joke for decades. My Grandchildren will get the reference when it’s parodied on their cartoons.
