Journalist Tom Ricks Gives Fox A Talking To About Its Coverage Of Benghazi

Posted by Ellen -7835.60pc on November 26, 2012 · Flag

Journalist Tom Ricks is a textbook example of how real journalists and Democrats should handle an appearance on Fox News.  Sadly, Bob Woodward could take a lesson.

Media Matters has the transcript:

RICKS: How many security contractors died in Iraq, do you know? ...Nobody does, because nobody cared. We know that several hundred died, but there was never an official count done of security contractors dead in Iraq. So when I see this focus on what was essentially a small firefight, I think, number one, I've covered a lot of firefights. It's impossible to figure out what happens in them sometimes. And second, I think that the emphasis on Benghazi has been extremely political, partly because Fox was operating as a wing of Republican Party.

Oops, time was suddenly up!

@Bemused — Yeah he sort of folded like a cheap suit as soon as Herr Murdoch Tweet-Threatened him. Ergo my comment about he could have scored some major points if he’d told Murdoch to shove it also. But I guess smacking the Curvy Couch Crew is a little different than going up against the Dark Lord.

Well said Agent 86. A (if not “the”) key difference between liberals and the foxy faithful is that the former won’t take anything for granted. Hell, we’re even capable of giving credit to Fox on the rare occasions they’ve actually been fair and balanced on something.

By some accounts, Christi was on the phone with Murdoch shortly after that moment of non-partisan leadership, so he’s back in the doghouse so far as I’m concerned.

Well said Tom Ricks.

Awwww, come on Little Ricky, a straight up comment? No thesaurus-exhausting pontification? Chin up little buckaroo! You’re just pissed because he bitch-slapped a talking head on Fox. My view of Ricks is that I have some respect for the guy at the moment for having the sack to take a shot at the tools on Fox and calling them on their bullshit…but if he does something tomorrow I find fault with, I’m just as apt to speak negatively to that. It’s like Christie bitch slapping the Curvy Couch Crew over his putting partisan politics aside to handle his business with Sandy and yes God forbid thanking Obama for his help. I admire the guy for that as it’s what he should have done but he could do something tomorrow that would evoke a different reaction. My only issue with him is that he didn’t tell Murdoch to shove is Tweet threat up his ass on top of that.

@Twatty pRick: “A few years ago, the Left were decrying Ricks as a war-mongering tool of the Bush cabal.”

Really, Twatty? Links?

Anyway, I love how you refer to Petraeus as “Zipper Dave Petraeus” — that’s quite a contrast from 2007, when the Foxies got in a lather after MoveOn.org’s “Petraeus or betray-us?” ad:

“Journalist” Tom Ricks is the original Paula Broadwell. He kissed up to the military & wrote a fawning hagiography of Zipper Dave Petraeus while Paula was learning fashion tips from Frances Swaggart. A few years ago, the Left were decrying Ricks as a war-mongering tool of the Bush cabal. Now, he takes a lame, snarky shot at FOX, and the limpo liberals see him as a white-bearded knight in rancid armor, their kind of savior.

Once again, these Fox “News” frauds were called out in front of the masses. Good job Tom!

These frauds didn’t know what was coming to them during this interview. Ricks was well-prepared in his comments. A standing ovation for a job well done.

Ricks knows he will not be asked back on Fox “News.” That doesn’t matter because the message was clear: Fox “News” is the public relations of the Republican Party.

Expect others to call them to the carpet.

Shortest interview I’ve ever seen that wasn’t up against a “hard” break. Period.
Well played, Mr. Ricks.

Fox News knows their story is destroyed on Benghazi; even some of their apologists here on Newshounds began conceding that it was a load before they mysteriously vanished.

It might be premature to say they’ll be around much longer, their ratings are way down since the election, and News Corp is falling apart. But this will be a joke for decades. My Grandchildren will get the reference when it’s parodied on their cartoons.

I’m having a hard time believing that this actually made it on the air!

That was great! I loved it! Off camera you just know they were having panic attack and telling him in his earpiece to get him off and say good night Gracie.

If Newshounds is still doing the “Best In Show”, Tom Ricks is it. (And Bob Woodward is in the Doghouse.)

I loved the way that a real journalist shoved Benghazi-gate up Scott’s ass.

FOX can’t handle the truth when it’s shoved in their faces. What a bunch of assholes. Good on Mr. Ricks for speaking bluntly & truthfully.

Love how he says “You’re welcome.”

I have a feeling that segment was not planned to go 1:47. Two truthful answers from Ricks led to a “Thanks for being here”. Ouch.
