Dr. Manny Alvarez is listed as Fox News’ “Senior Managing Editor For Health News” which, presumably, puts him in Fox’s much ballyhooed “objective news” camp instead of its “opinion” sections. Yet apparently Fox not only doesn’t mind his open (anti-Obamacare) political advocacy, they showcased it on Your World on Tuesday (5/28/13).
During his appearance on Your World, Alvarez had nothing to say about how to be a healthier person or about the latest medical breakthroughs. Instead, he made inflammatory attacks on the Affordable Care Act.
It’s a lie. They’ve lied to you before. They keep lying. This is a 22,000-page book full of lies. You’re not going to keep your doctor, you’re not going to keep your insurance, you’re going to pay more if you don’t change your lifestyle. In other words if everybody in the world is thin, then everything is going to be happy and peppy. Believe you me, these are lies upon lies upon lies. This is now a campaign they’re going to try to do to make everybody kind of agree with it, but every doctor knows it, that this is bad, that it’s not going to work. We don’t have the resources, and it’s not going to work just based on all of these rules.
When Cavuto quipped, “I’m going to put you down as a maybe on the health care law,” Alvarez continued his diatribe.
No, don’t put me down as a maybe. I’m going to be campaigning out there to repeal this stuff.
This is socialized medicine at its best. The Obama administration wants to take me out of a private job. That’s what they want. They want me to work for the federal government or to work for a big insurance. …The only people that are going to make money is the federal government because they’re going to tax you to death, the Wall Street consultants who already have had meetings trying to cherry pick what’s going to work and picking stocks I’m sure, and of course insurance companies who are going to make a killing by creating products that fulfill the minimum requirements that this law wants you to have, but really not fixing health care.
The Obama administration challenges the kinds of claims Alvarez made and provides data to show that the Affordable Care Act will bring down the cost of health care and is not a government takeover. But Cavuto didn’t even mention that information.
