Fox’s Tucker Carlson and Roger Ailes mouthpiece attorney Peter Johnson, Jr. didn’t just attack President Obama for urging Americans “not to rush to judgment” in the wake of the Boston bombings. The two chickenhawks suggested it’s downright unpatriotic not to immediately ratchet up suspicions against Muslims nor immediately call for the death penalty against bomb suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
Given that he received a bit of an uptick in his approval ratings last week, one could conclude that most of the country approves of President Obama’s handling of the Boston tragedy. But Fox seized on the following lines from his statement and used it to foment fear and hatred for our president, Muslims and, ultimately, the rule of law:
That American spirit includes staying true to the unity and diversity that makes us strong—like no other nation in the world. In this age of instant reporting and tweets and blogs, there’s a temptation to latch on to any bit of information, sometimes to jump to conclusions. But when a tragedy like this happens, with public safety at risk and the stakes so high, it’s important that we do this right. That’s why we have investigations. That’s why we relentlessly gather the facts. That’s why we have courts. And that’s why we take care not to rush to judgment—not about the motivations of these individuals; certainly not about entire groups of people.
They also complained about the following statement from the US Attorney for Massachusetts, Carmen Ortiz, about whether or not the federal government would seek the death penalty against Tsarnaev: “You review all of the evidence and it’s a very thoughtful, long process that is engaged and it’s the Attorney General of the Department of Justice that makes that final decision.”
Only on Fox News would caution and restraint be presented as un-American and contemptible.
“Diversity? What does that have to do with the murder of innocent Americans?” Carlson sneered.
“Nothing,” replied Johnson. He called it an example of “weak and weaker, wishy and washy.” He added that he was “devastated” watching Obama speak on television and he thought a lot of other Americans were, too. Laughably, Johnson went on to say that President Obama was disrespecting Americans because we have “a good track record” about “being tolerant of all peoples.” Sure we do, Peter. Just ask Glenn Beck!
Carlson agreed. He said that if someone had just parachuted into the country, “You would imagine that the country had a long history of anti-Muslim pogroms. …This is an incredibly tolerant country.”
Translation: We’re such a tolerant country that we are entitled to throw tolerance out the window now. Given Carlson’s bigoted history, it’s no surprise he’d be looking to do something like that.
Johnson added, “Let’s stop being part of the PC patrol. We need to be part of the terrorist patrol now. …Weak and wishy and washy and weaker has got to go.”
Carlson called that “a great point.”
I can’t remember his name, think it started with a J…
Anyhow, I’m pretty sure he’d greet you with a face palm.
Do the Good Christian Thing!
Off With Their Heads!!!
Methinks ‘lil pee junior was primarily upset that President Obama didn’t invade some random Mideast nation in response to the bombings . . .
Johnson added, “Let’s stop being part of the PC patrol. We need to be part of the terrorist patrol now. …Weak and wishy and washy and weaker has got to go.”
Hey, ‘lil pee junior — why don’t you ask Osama bin Laden how “weak and wishy washy” the President was toward him . . .
