Fox Regular: Hillary Clinton Put Orlando Shooter’s Father Behind Her ‘To Appeal To The Islamic Vote’

Desperate to deflect from Donald Trump’s outrageous suggestion that someone should assassinate Hillary Clinton, Fox News has been trying to make pathetic political hay over the fact that the Orlando shooter’s father was seated behind her at a rally.

It’s such a ridiculous conspiracy theory, I can only think that folks at Fox are so enamored of its “Obama's a secret Muslim” dog whistle that they want to keep using it against Hillary Clinton.

As Media Matters explains, there are only two possible explanations for Seddique Mateen to have been seated behind Clinton:

1 It was an accident. A low-level staffer grabbed Mateen from the crowd and put him in that position without realizing that Mateen was the father of the Pulse shooter, positioning him as part of what “a longtime Republican presidential campaign advance staffer described as a ‘tapestry’—an area where a diverse group would be seated to reflect wide-ranging support for the candidate.”

2 For some nefarious purpose, the Clinton campaign made a conscious, deliberate decision to highlight the support of Mateen during a speech in which Clinton paid tribute to his son’s victims.

“It makes no sense for the Clinton campaign to intentionally associate itself with a man who has a history of anti-gay comments and whose son killed dozens of gay people,” Media Matters further notes.

Yet, that is exactly what one of Fox's favorite Islamophobes, Brigitte Gabriel, argued last night, with a little help from host Trish Regan.

“What the heck is going on” Regan asked, deliberately raising suspicion, “that the Hillary campaign somehow missed that this guy was seated there. Do you believe that?”

BRIGITTE GABRIEL: No, I don’t believe it one bit because her advance team knows exactly who is sitting behind her. These people are handpicked, and there is no way they did not know that he was sitting there. As a matter of fact, I don’t doubt it that they even positioned him in there because they wanted to appeal to the Islamic vote. So the fact that she is denying that she knew he was there is total baloney.

Memo to Gabriel: I’m willing to bet that with a candidate like Trump, Hillary Clinton already has a lock on the Muslim vote and doesn’t need to pander. Furthermore, it speaks volume about Gabriel that she thinks cozying up to Mateen would appeal to most Muslims.

But, having insisted the Clinton campaign deliberately sat Mateen behind the candidate, Gabriel gave herself some anti-Clinton insurance just in case she was wrong.

GABRIEL: And even though if she did not know—if she’s saying I really did not know, what does that say about her carelessness? She is running for president. So she is endangering her position and the presidency of the United States by having the father of a terrorist who killed 49 Americans sitting just feet from her. That speaks volumes about the lack of attention to security details surrounding her and her lacksadaisy (sic) operations. Just like what she did with the emails. Hosting State Department e-mails on her personal server.

That's just as ridiculous. It's not as if Mr. Mateen is a terrorist or that seating him at a rally meant that Clinton endorsed anything about him. In fact, she specifically disavowed his support..

Predictably, Regan did not challenge a word Gabriel said nor anything she suggested.

Actually (and rather troublingly) Mr Mateen was there as a guest of the Florida Democratic Party. Or so I read in The Daily Beast or somesuch. I’m sure Hillary’s team would have been aghast if they knew.

I love the NAMBLA thing – perfectly concocted and executed to counter the sly and cowardly bullshit we have watched on Focks for years, now adopted by The Ugliest American.

Speaking of ‘some people are saying’, some people are saying that Trump made a series of bets with Bill Clinton and David Axelrod some months ago when things didn’t look quite so bleak for him. Expect to see some prominent buildings getting a makeover come late November – Hillary Tower, Chelsea Soho Hotel and the Bubba International Hotel & Tower Chicago and Panama City.

Mark Foley was behind Trump for the NAMBLA vote.

I stand corrected. If anyone wants to make hay out of this, feel free. Any misstep by Hillary is going to be magnified to comic proportions. Meanwhile at Trump Manor, they paint over the cockroaches.

Well, David, I think “our side” does care a bit about how Donald tRump’s team is so blatantly seeking out the pedophile vote by having Foley sit in such a “privileged” section. And if FoxNoise isn’t making an issue of it, it merely goes on to display the network’s apparent belief that white Republican men in power should be able to do anything they want to anyone else.

And disgraced ex congressman Mark Foley was sitting behind Donald Trump. But I don’t think anybody on our side really gives a damn about that kind of minutia.

Certainly ISIS is such a huge voter demographic in America who can blame Hillary for going after their vote? They’ll obviously carry her over the top. Seriously Fox asshats? Bridgette face hugs stupid with a death [of Trump’s campaign] grip.

With no terrorist attacks fresh in the news to blame on Hillary, the Fox News propaganda megaphone is left with this idiocy to keep the fear alive in the hearts and souls of cowardly, paranoid right-wingers. Rush down to your nearest gun shop before the lines form! Any day Hillary will announce ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as her Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security!

Coordinate Fox’s latest bonehead Hillary is a secret radical Muslim terrorist lover conspiracy theory to Hair Hitler’s latest demagoguery secret Muslim Obama and Hillary co-founded ISIS and you start to realize what contempt the Trumpets have for the intelligence of the right-wingers supporting Der Furor and how desperate they are to whip up any support.

Kevin,

I think you are spot on, as usual.

This was clearly supposed to be the Fox News/right wing Line of the Week. The intention was to really point this up and work it to emphasize Clinton as clueless or sinister, depending on which prejudice the viewer is supposed to have. And it was supposed to tie in with the other two attack lines of the week. The first being the Judicial Watch Attempted Email Headline #294, where we are supposed to believe that a right wing activist group has “suddenly” come across really sinister emails that turn out to be both ordinary and already dealt with. The second being the new lawsuit from two right wing parents of Benghazi victims. A lawsuit that just happens to have been timed to be unveiled about one week after the Dem Convention with the clear goal of puncturing any bounce Clinton might have been getting.

All three of those stories together were intended to be a constant whine of negativity about Clinton to drive her numbers down and discourage her supporters. (“Your candidate is about to be indicted again! Your candidate is an evil person who is being sued by the poor parents of her victims! Your candidate doesn’t even care about the victims in Orlando!”) And this was supposed to be the drumbeat of the week, hopefully to result in some strong downturns in her polling and thus some improvement for Trump to keep him close until the debates. This was also intended to keep her trustworthy numbers as low as possible and alienate Clinton from anyone thinking of her as a human being after the last couple of weeks.

And it all could have worked brilliantly. If Trump could have controlled himself and stayed on his message. If he could have resisted the impulse to go for the cheap below-the-belt shot. But he can’t. He simply can’t stop himself from the cheap shot.

So now all of right wing media has been stuck having to address and cover for Trump’s vicious joke. Which blows a hole through the great week they had planned for Clinton. These great Rovian ideas only work when your candidate isn’t determined to shoot himself in the big toe at least once a week.

I just saw a news report on a protester at a Hillary rally. The protester was treated pretty roughly in my opinion. Animal rights protester. I wish that wasn’t the case. Some asshole suggested a presidential candidate be assassinated.
Hey the crazy portion of the republican party is behind Donald Trump!

Hey! The non crazy (read evil) portion of the republican party is not behind Donald Trump. Folks like Dick Cheney. I wouldn’t trust Dick Cheney as far as I could throw him.

Watch yer back politicians.

I like how she got the email dig in there as well.
