Fox News Fans: A Dying Breed?

Posted by Ellen -7859.80pc on July 25, 2013 · Flag

Fox News is still a ratings juggernaut but the age of its viewers - old and getting older - signals trouble on the horizon.

In case you missed it, I wrote a post on Addicting Info a few days ago about an interesting article in the New York Times about the off-the-ratings chart median age of Fox News viewers, 65+.

The Times wrote:

Just how old is its audience? It is impossible to be precise because Nielsen stops giving an exact figure for median age once it passes 65. But for six of the last eight years, Fox News has had a median age of 65-plus and the number of viewers in the 25-54 year old group has been falling consistently, down five years in a row in prime time, from an average of 557,000 viewers five years ago to 379,000 this year. That has occurred even though Fox’s overall audience in prime time is up this year, to 2.02 million from 1.89 million three years ago.

To which I added:

It would certainly be ironic if the network’s own downfall was not because of its outrageous propaganda, hate mongering or distortions but because the age of its own fans did it in.

“Some people say” that the best friend of many Fox News viewers is their local pharmacist.

But that’s only what “some people say”. Not me.

In addition to being old (between 65 and death) and white, the average Fux Noise viewer enjoys having his/her ingrained biases pandered to.

I think they package deal a lot of it from Family Guy, myself. I mean, if advertisers are willing to invest in one habitually racist program with hitting/raping women as their top running joke, simply because it has high ratings, how hard is it to twist their arm into invest in a 2nd?

Here is the 411 on media advertising.

Viewers 65 and older are toxic to advertising agencies. They prefer 25-54 age group when placing ads in various media outlets.

The problem with these Fox “News” frauds is their anchors and hosts are aging. Billy and Hannocchio are too old to attract a younger audience. If the Fox “News” executive staff had any intelligence-which they don’t-they would have retired these two grandpas and replaced them with younger hosts.

Being number one in the ratings don’t mean crap to these agencies. Their job is to sell a product for their clients. If the agencies fail to generate an increase in numbers for their clients, they are fired.

NOTE TO FOX “NEWS” SUIT RITTENBERG

You can always sell assistant living residential areas to the 65+ viewers of Fox “News” Channel.

It’s still pretty bad, when you factor in how the kids that didn’t tune it all out turned up.

Aria, I don’t think it’s quite as bad as you think. I doubt there are very many kids sitting around the family TV watching Faux with the g’parents. They have their own electronic worlds to hang out in. They aren’t stuck with the one TV like my generation was, being bored shitless watching Lawrence Welk. Most of my 22 year old daughter’s generation don’t have a clue about politics and don’t care. They don’t watch TV news or read a paper. Most of them re too busy with school, athletics and jobs. If they do watch Fux they’re probably male and only watch because the chicks are hot. Or so I’ve been told.

I donno, I know a few people who were raised by their grandparents, listening to Rush, and watching Fox News for their evening TV.

They mostly believe the far right’s garbage, make all the same excuses, and still cling to the same sorry excuses for why they think Republicans are always right, and everyone who disagrees with them is always wrong.

The damage is done.

Okay…I’ll bite.
IMHO, the hope for this nation is that the hatred, racism and bigotry of this nation resides mostly in those solidly of ‘Social Security’ age. My most fervent hope is that I live beyond their time. Hopefully, they won’t ignorantly destroy what is left of a once wonderful, tolerant nation before their ticket expires.
