Less than 10 minutes after a Fox News Alert reported a shooting on Capitol Hill, reporter Catherine Herridge immediately detracted from questions as to whether or not the government shutdown may have impeded the Department of Homeland Security. So after reporting that 10% of its employees are out because of the shutdown, she quickly took a gratuitous slap at President Obama.
As the video below shows, Gretchen Carlson broke the news of the shooting at about 2:26 PM ET. Less than 10 minutes later, Herridge came on to report the following:
A short time ago, I was unable to get through immediately to someone at Homeland Security because of the government shutdown. About one in ten of the employees over at Homeland Security are out this week as a result. But I did reach the operations center. So this is the central hub where they monitor incoming threats here in the Washington, D.C. area and also nationally. And what they told me is that they had notification of shots fired outside the Capitol building and they were getting calls in and they were investigating.
But before anyone had time to consider that the government shutdown may have caused any harm to our national security, Herridge quickly deflected blame to President Obama:
What typically happens in this situation is that the Secretary of Homeland Security will be brought in, will be briefed and they’ll try and assess is a D.C. situation or whether there may be some other intelligence indicating a connection, or as they like to say, ‘a nexus’ to terrorism. Right now, just to remind people, we are without a head of Homeland Security. Janet Napolitano left over a month ago. So that position is vacant.
Of course, what Herridge did not feel the need to "just remind people" is that Republican obstructionism has impeded President Obama's appointment process.
“Any moment now on Fox (maybe on Hannity’s teevee), we’ll hear them try to spin this as an attempt to break into Ted Cruz’s office, tie him up with dental floss and hold him hostage in exchange for a clean CR.”

No matter what the facts turn out to be I agree with you that Sean and everyone at Fox will spin this against the President.
She wasn’t a “shooter”… just a driver. Turns out she was a young dental hygienist from Connecticut. No gun found in her car.

Of course that doesn’t exactly explain why she first tried to crash into the Oval Office.

Just a thought Fox but don’t you think we should wait for the facts to come out. I think the blame should go to the shooter but that’s just me.
Soon we’ll know all about her and then maybe we’ll all learn to why she did this, but again that’s just me.
How fortunate! At one point, Hannity (or one of his guests) exclaimed, “Senators are diving under their desks!”
Unfortunately, as the real details emerged and this turned out to be an isolated incident, not a mob of enraged liberals shooting at conservative congressmen over the shutdown, you could almost hear the disappointment in Slanthead’s voice.
In his show’s first few minutes, Seanny lost no time in contuning his big lie; that a “derranged” Obama was again today blocking WWII vets from visiting the memorial. Then he brought on turd-face McConnell, who backed up Slanthead by exclaiming that the vets again today had to “storm the barricades” to visit the memorial.
A little later, Pat Buchannan was on the phone with Hannity, telling him that Obama is not only closing all the veterans’ monuments in “Whaarshington” but also has blocked vistors to Omaha Beach.
Isn’t this just ducky for the right wing scumbags that Obama timed the shutdown so that it coincided exactly with the annual, early October visit to memorial by thousands upon thousands of WWII vets!
P.S… I’m only reporting this for few people here (anyone besides myself and Antoinette), who actually care about the pathological lying by Hannity, et. al.?
