Fox News Tweet(s) Du Jour: The All Beef Weiner Edition
When the New York Times broke the news that (now former)-Congressman Anthony Weiner would resign today, it didn’t take long for the Fox News Channel to start the full-court press, with virtual wall to wall coverage. Even before the NYT made the announcement there was some decided weirdness on Fox News Twitter feeds, like having the well-respected political pundit Larry the Cable Guy (No! Really!) to comment on the controversy:

The Whole World Reacts To Glenn Beck’s Firing
A combination of sadness and schadenfreude greeted the news that Glenn Beck will no longer be broadcasting out of the Fox “News” building. Predictably, since the Beckinator covers covered such a large media landscape in his scant 27 months at the help of his eponymously named Comedy Caliphate Cavalcade, once again Glenn Beck was the biggest news on the planet the subject of media attention, and, once again, not for something good.

Hannity Ignores Major Taliban Capture
The New York Times News Alert I got about the capture of a top Taliban commander was sent at 9:15 PM ET, 15 minutes into last night's (2/15/10) Hannity show (screen grab after the jump). "The article states, "The Taliban’s top military commander was captured several days ago in Karachi, Pakistan, in a secret joint operation by Pakistani and American intelligence forces, according to American government officials... The commander, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, is an Afghan described by American officials as the most significant Taliban figure to be detained since the American-led war in Afghanistan started more than eight years ago. He ranks second in influence only to Mullah Muhammad Omar, the Taliban’s founder and a close associate of Osama bin Laden before the Sept. 11 attacks...His capture could cripple the Taliban’s military operations, at least in the short term, said Bruce O. Riedel, a former C.I.A. officer who last spring led the Obama administration’s Afghanistan and Pakistan policy review." The news was part of a Fox News alert at the beginning of Greta Van Susteren's On The Record. But there was no such news during Hannity. At several points during the show, I saw "live" on the screen so we know that at least part of the show was live. This clip from the same day shows the time as being about 48 minutes into the hour, when we know the news had already come out, and it has the "live" stamp. Has Sean Hannity suddenly become uninterested in terrorism? I doubt that, especially since on the same show he attacked Obama's Deputy National Security Adviser, John Brennan, as being unfit for the job for at least the second time this week. More likely, Hannity and the Fox News producers prefer to ignore the news that doesn't comport with their war on Obama's national security policies. Or maybe they just needed more time to figure out how to spin it against Obama.

Fox News' Coverage of Sarah Palin at the Tea Party Convention: Seen One Palin Campaign Speech, Seen 'Em All
Well, it's Saturday (2/6/10), and the Big Day -- well, a dual-big-event day, actually -- finally arrived. Ah, the agony of indecision: Should Fox cover the Teabagger, er, Tea Party Convention in Nashville, Tennessee or the 99th birthday celebration of its icon, "fiscal conservative" (or, rather, fiscal "disaster"), Ronald Reagan? Well, Fox News can't normally be accused of lack of coverage of its icon, but today, it appears that Ronnie took a back seat to the teabaggers. Fox is on it! As a sampler platter, we've got a gushing Carl Cameron at 12:07 p.m. at the teabagger event, and here . . . well, it looks like it might be Halloween in Nashville, with the cute little costumes and hats. Oh, and yesterday -- isn't it cute, according to Fox' chyron, Fox is still calling it a "grassroots" movement. And, of course, we can't forget the overpaid "rock star" herself, Sarah Palin -- all the talking points you can buy for a hundred grand. With video from The Huffington Post.
