Did anyone at Fox News bother to actually read or listen to Michelle Obama’s commencement address Friday before cherry-picking a few comments, out of context, and using them to attack her as some kind of anti-white racist holding a grudge against America?
Deneen Borelli's official title may be “Fox News contributor” but her real role on Fox is that of African American black attacker. In other words, Fox outsources its race baiting to this willing African American woman. A psychologist could have a field day, I’m sure.
Sure enough, Borelli smeared Obama’s comments as nothing more than a “way to get black people to the polls.”
Then a clip was played of Obama saying this:
“It’s the story that I witness every single day when I wake up in a house that was built by slaves, and I watch my daughters — two beautiful, black young women — head off to school, waving goodbye to their father, the president of the United States.”
Any honest commentary about Obama's address would acknowledge that she was praising the American dream. She was suggesting her solidarity with immigrants who come here and make a better life while taking thinly-veiled digs at Donald Trump: “We don’t build up walls to keep people out because we know that our greatness has always depended on contributions from people who were born elsewhere but sought out this country and made it their home.”
Borelli, however, falsely suggested that Obama was airing racial resentment.
BORELLI: But for her to go back in time to bring up slavery – again, it’s a way to play on people’s emotions. Why not go back to the 50s and 60s when the Democrats were the ones who …wanted to keep blacks segregated and were involved in the KKK and other issues that they did not want black Americans to have liberty and freedom in America.
Why not talk about America’s exceptionalism? She went to Princeton. She went to law school. She’s in the White House, the first lady. Why not talk about how exceptional America is and that people – these graduates, this is what they want to hear. A message of hope, a message of inspiration. And that you can achieve anything you set your mind to as long as you work hard and apply yourself. That is what America has to offer.
Actually, that’s exactly what Obama was saying. And it was, apparently, exactly what the graduates wanted to hear. New York’s PIX11 reported, “They clearly adored the speech and the speech-giver, at one point shouting ‘Four more years’ to the first lady.”
Carlson followed up by complaining, “Even as we speak, here on the couch, workmen, using our tax dollars, are erecting a higher fence around Michelle Obama’s house. Do you know what she said yesterday? ‘We need to tear down these walls ‘cause that’s not the way Americans live. We’re not afraid of other people.’ Why is there a fence around the White House? Is that exclusionary or what?”
Again, if Carlson had bothered to check out what Obama had actually said, he would have known she was not calling for open borders. And obviously, the White House is a target for all kinds of evildoers. In other words, apples and oranges.
“Yeah, do as I say, not as I do,” Borelli added.
For one more bit of anti-Obama snark, Carlson closed by saying, “I look forward to the day when all the Syrian refugees are living on the White House lawn.”
Hardy har har.
