Fox News guest Crystal Wright went on a tirade against black voters’ “slavish support” for Democrats – while suggesting that if they were not so ignorant, they’d vote for Donald Trump.
Cohost Steve Doocy noted at the beginning of the discussion that today, February 1, marks the start of Black History Month. Then he introduced Crystal Wright, editor and publisher of the Conservative Black Chick blog, to tell the viewers at home whether a Republican candidate could lure African American voters away from the Democrats.
“I understand you’re not confident that the Republicans would win a majority of the black vote,” Doocy began, “but there is one Republican candidate who you think the African-Americans can identify with.”
As if we couldn’t guess which candidate that would be.
WRIGHT: It’s Donald Trump. Many people probably don’t like me saying that because Donald Trump actually is the only person bothering to talk to black people and ask for their vote. He has a black spokesperson. You’ve seen her, Katrina Pierson. In his immigration plan he talks about how deporting illegals is going to help black unemployment and create black jobs, not pander to Black Lives Matter. So he’s the only one really talking to black voters, in my opinion, on the Republican side.
It strikes me as laughable, even as a white person, that Wright would think Trump’s refusal to “pander” to Black Lives Matter is a plus for him with the black community. But even worse, that’s quite a whitewash (pun intended) of Trump’s behavior. At a Trump rally in November, Trump’s supporters actually beat up a Black Lives Matter protester. Trump’s response? “Maybe he should have been roughed up, because it was absolutely disgusting what he was doing.” Trump said that on Fox News.
And that “black spokesperson, Katrina Pierson?” She’s got quite a racist record.
But neither Doocy nor Kooiman questioned Wright’s warped description of Trump’s racial bona fides. Instead, Kooiman helped boost them.
KOOIMAN: Well and earlier last year he tried to court about 100 African American evangelical pastors. It didn’t end exactly the way that he wanted to. However, he has been quite outspoken about the Oscars and the lack of diversity. So I guess he has that going for him.
Tellingly, that was it for why Trump would be so great for “the blacks,” as he has called them.
The rest of the discussion centered on attacking Democrats and the black people who “slavishly” vote for them.
KOOIMAN: On the other side of the aisle, let’s talk Democrats. And you have a theory that they are essentially buying the African American vote. What do you mean?
WRIGHT: You know, I think it’s so sad when it comes to the black vote. Blacks have shown a slavish support for the Democrat party for over 50 years. And part of me wonders if the Republican party should even bother asking for the black vote because black Americans seem to like being political dummies.
There’s—we’re the only race that has voted lock, stock, and barrel for the same party for over 50 years. So, it’s really on lockdown. And you know what? …Hillary Clinton is already owning the black vote. And I think she’s owning it because, oh, she was married to the first black president. I mean, that’s all Democrats have to do. It’s a sad state of affairs for blacks when all they have to do is pander and insult to black Americans, decade in and decade out. And we keep coming back for more misery. It’s like we’ve given up on ourselves, economically, by voting for Democrats.
Later, Doocy quoted Wright as having told Fox producers, “Blacks don’t care about policies.” Rather than challenge her for that insulting statement, he prodded her to expand on it. “If blacks don’t care about policies, what does that mean?” he asked.
WRIGHT: Black Americans only care about policies, mildly, if a black conservative runs. And that’s the kiss of death. If a black conservative runs, a black candidate like Carson, Herman Cain, you can just kiss the black vote good-bye in my opinion because automatically blacks are going to call you an Uncle Tom, they’re going to dismiss you outright. They might scrutinize your policies a little bit but isn’t it funny, Steve, that when a black liberal runs, like Barack Obama, they just say, “OK, we’ll vote for you. We’ll be dumb, we’ll be stupid, we’re just gonna keep voting for you even though our lives are worse under the first black president.”
…It’s the race card, Steve. I can be a black liberal and black voters won’t even question my policies. Isn’t that pathetic? I mean, can’t we do better?
Actually, Wright had just proved that it’s not the race card. If African Americans prefer a white Democrat, such as Hillary Clinton, over a black conservative, such as current black presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson, then they are clearly not voting based on race.
Predictably, neither Doocy nor Kooiman pointed that out.
Welcome to Black History Month on Fox News. Expect more like this as the network tends to “celebrate” it the same way they “honor” Dr. Martin Luther King – with race baiting and disrespect for what mainstream African Americans care about.
Meanwhile, watch the race-baiting disrespect below, from the February 1 Fox & Friends, via Media Matters.
Yeah, she is an expert.
OY
Yeah, let’s vote for that.
Yes, Fox is responsible here. They knew what Wright was going to say and deliberately prodded her to say it. And then the hosts failed to challenge a single one of her many outrageous statements.
In other words, it was a way of outsourcing inflammatory, insulting rhetoric about African Americans and pretend, “Hey, it wasn’t us, it was the guest!”
Which explains why support of Obama among African Americans remains at a brisk 82% — but please, tell us more about how blacks really feel; as an African American, I can’t wait to hear it . . .
.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Except that every other word in the universe was passed over, including these:
“servile, subservient, fawning, obsequious, sycophantic, toadying, unctuous”
until Fox found just the right one.
Slavish: it resonates.
Trump spokesperson Katrina Pierson may be black but her history of saying bigoted, offensive things is well documented. Heck, I think I linked to one in a previous thread. Wright trumpeting Pierson by itself clues me into what kind of right-wing nut job she is.
Then it’s her idiocy on Trump helping the blacks economically which causes my jaw to drop!
So Trump’s going to deport heavily exploited, mostly low wage illegal immigrants with the goal of giving these crap, bottom of the barrel jobs (i.e., migrant farm laborers) to the black underclass who probably are already working a couple of marginally better crap jobs without ends meeting? Oh, thanks a lot – NOT.
Then there’s Wright making the spurious claim Trump’s the only person courting the black vote. Obviously, this is blatant bulls—t as, even she’s basically admitting, all of the Democratic candidates (unlike the Republicans) have reached out to the #BlackLivesMatter movement conservatives have savaged. Of course, Wright would say she’s not blowing smoke up our asses. As she basically said, this outreach doesn’t count which is it’s own topic of the complete conservative disconnect with the black community and why blacks won’t vote for The Donald.
But even if she’s referring only to Republicans and we forget #BlackLivesMatter this is a lie because I’ve heard Huckabee and Rubio playing a smattering of lip service to wooing the black vote. And The Donald’s faux outreach to blacks can pretty much summed up with all his other empty boasts of how great he’ll be and how much he’ll be loved.
I’ve yet to hear a black publicly refer to Ben Carson as an ‘Uncle Tom’ this election cycle. They, IMHO, can’t relate to his or his white Republican candidate buddies’ extremist rhetoric. Who outside the Tea Party and the Fox News fan base can blame them?
I could go on but I think I need to go take my blood pressure medicine! 😉
