Cliven Bundy Lied About His Family’s ‘Ancestral Rights’ – And Fox News Let Him

Posted by Ellen -7859.80pc on April 22, 2014 · Flag

It turns out that Fox News hero Cliven Bundy is not just a lawbreaking moocher – he’s also a big, fat liar. Those “ancestral rights” he boasts about – you know, the ones he claims go back to the 1800s – and therefore predate the federal government’s claim to the land Bundy refuses to pay to grace on? Turns out 1954 is the date the Bundy family really began grazing.

KLAS-TV in Las Vegas did the kind of investigating that Fox News – despite all its coverage – “objective” and otherwise – either failed to do or refused to do:

“I’ve lived my lifetime here. My forefathers have been up and down the Virgin Valley here ever since 1877. All these rights that I claim, have been created through pre-emptive rights and beneficial use of the forage and the water and the access and range improvements,” Bundy said.

Clark County property records show Cliven Bundy’s parents moved from Bundyville, Arizona and bought the 160 acre ranch in 1948 from Raoul and Ruth Leavitt.

Water rights were transferred too, but only to the ranch, not the federally managed land surrounding it. Court records show Bundy family cattle didn’t start grazing on that land until 1954.

Meanwhile, over at Fox News, where they seem ready to demand Bundy’s face be carved into Mt. Rushmore, not one of the reporters or hosts seems to have even looked for this easily-verifiable information.

For example:

Last week, Sean Hannity said to Bundy, “How long have your cattle been out there grazing over the years? It goes back to the 1800s right?

“Objective” news host Harris Faulkner announced, “Two bits of fact here: The Bundy family… says they’ve been letting their cattle graze on that land since the 1800s…”

In other words, Fox repeatedly announced that the Bundy family’s grazing history is important but nobody was interested in any facts beyond what the Bundy family claimed. In addition to Hannity’s man crush on Bundy, we’ve also found positive segments or reports about the family on The Kelly File, On The Record, Fox & Friends, by Todd Starnes, supposedly objective reporters Griff Jenkins and William La Jeunesse (each of whom were on-scene at the Bundy ranch) and my personal favorite - Fox Nation likening Bundy to Gandhi and Thoreau.

As Jed Lewison at DailyKos pointed out, it really doesn’t matter that Bundy is a fraud. “Even if his family had lived on his ranch since 1877, it wouldn’t change the fact that his cattle are grazing on Federal, not private, land and that he should play by the same rules as everybody else,” he noted.

But the fact that Bundy lied about the basis for what he claims are his rights – and nobody at Fox did any fact checking – makes both him and the “fair and balanced” network all the more deplorable.

Even IF the Bundy family had been grazing the area since 1877, that certainly does not predate ownership of the land by the United States… going back to the ratification of the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo on March 10, 1848.

Where’s the proof? It’s right in the article I linked to. Maybe you should read my actual post before you accuse me of not having documentation. It makes you look ridiculous as well as ignorant.

Were is the proof. This article is just talk . Same as Bundy. lots of words but no documentation showing the facts. All of you posting are as ignorant as Bundy!
Next time you decide to open your big mouths make sure you can back it up. You know a copy of the Deed (public record) Sorry but i don’t take anyone’s word anymore. Internet garbage that’s this is nothing but…

LOL…if you’re gonna play that card, the land belongs to Native Americans. (Comment edited by moderator: NO TALK OF VIOLENCE ALLOWED, EVEN WHEN YOU’RE JUST KIDDING)

Hannity had a man crush on Bundy…but now they have broken up forever! Bundy seriousy, Dr. Mlk, Jr. did his job excellantly, but however people like George Wallace, Palin Cruz, General Forrest, Limbaugh, Ted Nugent, etc., etc has done much better obviously. The statement you made about Dr. MLK, jr, was kinda wore than the one you made about slaves. Time to get a pair of new shit-kickers I guess.

@dave: Bundy lying about the events to make himself a victim is “trash”? Good to know… As for Reid, this is a rehash of a 2003 conspiracy theory that wasn’t even true then. The land for those panels is 20 miles off the land Bundy’s pretending this is over, and the project’s been abandoned.

Nice try, though.

First off, I am a diehard liberal. …Let’s just say that I find it “mildly ironic” how an american government that murdered thousands upon thousands of native americans and stole their land is now claiming that someone else is “mooching” on “government property”….

So again some leftist puke dug up some trash on an American to cover for the treason that reid commits. Good ole reid stuffing his dingy pockets with Red Chinese cash while chasing American rancher’s off their property and taxing them out of their land for the Red Chinese. Who’s the liar???

I agree that he should pay, but i disagree with how the BLM handled the situation. If I owe the federal govt money, I don’t want them busting down my door and pointing assault rifles in my wife and kids faces.

Some say that the Bundy Klan was grazing dinosaurs on that land back just after the last Ice Age.

What’s a hundred years or so to a vicious liar like Slanthead. Truth, facts — they never get in his way when it comes to promoting his goals, which in this case is a bloody range war!

As another example (a little OT), I just hear Hannocchio on the radio, let Zionist wacko David Horowitz blame the Kansas neo-Nazi KKK shooting on Obama because the President “is trying to destroy Israel … he wants Iran to get the bomb.” Hannity agreed completely.

Sick!

Saw this on the Daily Kos last nite. So his family has only lived there for the past 60 years, not back in the Old Wild West times that Bundy and Faux want you to believe. Bet you won’t see or hear of any of this on Faux or talk radio, unless they claim the “liberal mainstream” media is trying to denigrate the true American patriot, Mr. Bundy.

Conservative Logic: “Bundy’s in his rights because his family was on that land since (insert what year they’re saying today), and the BLM didn’t exist until 1946…”

First of all, people who believe this that post here… Explain to me where it says you can be exempt from a law because you owned/used the property before it was enacted. When you can do that, we’ll explain everything else wrong with this argument. And not just refreshing your memory on what this article says.
