Ann Coulter reprised her role as a Middle East war expert on Fox News last night. Once again, she treated a serious and grave situation, with potentially wide-ranging ramifications, as little more than a springboard for her childishly inflammatory “wit.” But something tells me that a lot of viewers were laughing at her and not with her as she wished that military action in Syria would be the same kind of “magnificent success” the Iraq war was - until President Obama botched it.
Coulter may have a newly-tightened face but the hate-mongering-for-profit shtick is as loose as ever. The only thinking she seems to have done about Syria is how to use it to malign Democrats:
They (Democrats) wanted to keep the great statesman, Saddam Hussein, in power… We need to check with Hillary here to make sure the chemical gas wasn’t released by a Syrian upset by a YouTube video. You cannot trust these people on national security. They are Democrats. …And I would point out that in every military intervention – well, in the past century, when Republicans are running it, we’re winning, when Democrats come in, we are losing. They make a mess of things.
…How about just sending those troops to Iraq? (even though nobody has said anything about sending troops anywhere). That is, once again, a war that was - deposed a monster 50 times worse than Assad, that established a democracy that did not allow Al Qaeda to get control of the country and… defeat is snatched from the jaws of victory by Obama, by pulling out troops. …He’s given that magnificent success up.
Later, reaffirming the "magnificent success" of the Iraq war, she asked Sean Hannity, “Aren’t you glad Saddam Hussein isn’t around to be involved in this right now?”
Hannity asked, “What are the odds that the weapons of mass destruction we didn’t find actually made its way to Syria?”
Of course, that conspiracy theory was long ago completely debunked. But, just like his pal Coulter's dishonest voting record, Job Number One for Hannity is political gain for conservatives. Truth and facts take a back seat far away.
In 2004, the CIA’s Iraq Survey Group (ISG) released a report that found that Iraq “ended the nuclear program in 1991 following the Gulf war. ISG found no evidence to suggest concerted efforts to restart the program.” The report further stated, “While a small number of old, abandoned chemical munitions have been discovered, ISG judges that Iraq unilaterally destroyed its undeclared chemical weapons stockpile in 1991.”
The ISG also concluded that after 1995, Iraq “abandoned its existing [biological warfare] program in the belief that it constituted a potential embarrassment, whose discovery would undercut Baghdad’s ability to reach its overarching goal of obtaining relief from UN sanctions.” The report stated that Iraq appeared to have destroyed its undeclared stocks of biological warfare-related weapons in 1991 and 1992.
A 2005 Associated Press report stated that intelligence officials said they found no evidence "indicating that WMD or significant amounts of components and equipment were transferred from Iraq to neighboring Syria…
1. Dumbya, Darth Cheney and Rummy invaded a sovereign nation over WMDs which didn’t exist. Ooops!
2. The three stooges then overthrew the entire Iraqi government structure and tossed the Iraqi people into lawless chaos.
3. The USA pissed away $2 trillion and sacrificed 4,500 American lives in a ten-year war of occupation.
4. Iraq now is in the midst of a Muslim war between Shiites and Sunnis.
5. The current Iraq government is a tool of the radical Iranian regime.
With success like that, who needs failure?
