Sean Hannity’s new BFF, Bob Woodward, appeared on the Hannity show tonight where Hannity eagerly pressed him on the possibility that Benghazi would be President Obama’s Watergate. You may recall that Hannity has previously thought Sestak-gate, Fast and Furious-gate, and campaign-ad-gate would be President Obama’s Watergate. Unfortunately for Hannity, Bob Woodward - an authority on what would constitute the next Watergate if ever there was one - would not go along.

Mitt Romney may have won the debate with Barack Obama but he threw truth and facts out the window while he was polishing up his presidential act. Today, Fox & Friends not only dismissed concerns for the truth but actually attacked Democrats for making it an issue. (h/t bemused)

Mark Twain said "a lie can travel halfway around the world." That was before the internet and Fox News which, thanks to Bill O'Reilly, is aiding and abetting lies that eventually become part of the ugly and false right wing narrative that divides Americans into opposing camps. This divisiveness is underscored in the type of rhetoric, advanced by Fox News and the right wing media world, which fosters hatred of "illegal immigrants" who, according to those who promote hate, are getting benefits they don't deserve. Bill O'Reilly advanced this message in his recent conversation with Adam Carolla, during which they agreed that folks wouldn't starve without food stamp. O'Reilly started the food stamp conversation by claiming that the Obama administration is working to allow undocumented immigrants to receive food stamps. As with so much of what O'Reilly says, it's a great, big, fat, whopping lie.

Bill O'Reilly is, economically speaking, quite comfortable. But he is made quite uncomfortable regarding any criticism of the income inequality and lack of mobility which now puts the United States behind many of those evil "socialist" countries that are loathed by Bill and his plutocrat pals. For Bill, the notion that the system is rigged in favor of the rich smacks of "class warfare." Yet, he has absolutely no problem waging class warfare against those whose economic situation qualifies them for benefits without which they would be in dire economic straights. Last week, Bill and his oh, so droll comedian posse member, Adam Carolla, took this inverse class warfare to a new depth in not only criticizing the food stamps program but the actual recipients themselves one of whom, as O'Reilly informed us, was Carolla's mother!

Bill O'Reilly brought his obsession with Sandra Fluke to his Rumble in the Air-Conditioned Auditorium with Jon Stewart over the weekend. In a segment recapping the Rumble on The O'Reilly Factor tonight, O'Reilly led off with his smear of Fluke.

Bob Woodward has been on Fox News’ Hannity show several times in the last few weeks. And there’d be nothing wrong with that if Woodward had distanced himself from the hate mongering and race baiting that is Sean Hannity’s stock in trade. Instead, Woodward – an icon of American journalism if ever there was one – either ignored or was unfamiliar with the kinds of sleazy tactics that Hannity routinely employs on his show and thereby gave Hannity a stamp of legitimacy he doesn’t come close to deserving. In the end, the taint redounded to Woodward

Nobody’s better than Jon Stewart at honing in on exactly what is wrong with Fox News. In this clip from his “Rumble in Air-Conditioned Auditorium” pay-per-view match up with Bill O’Reilly, Stewart gets it right again. “On Bullshit Mountain (i.e. Fox News), our problems are amplified and our solutions simplified and that’s why they won’t work.”

While the Catholic bishops are careful not to instruct their flock on whom to vote for, it's clear that they're not fans of the pro-choice and pro-same sex marriage president and his party. Illinois Bishop Jenky compared the president to Hitler. Another Illinois bishop, Thomas Paprocki, said that Catholics who vote for candidates who support abortion and gay marriage are going to hell. Washington bishops are openly preaching and raising money for the defeat of the gay marriage ballot item. But their 2012 Voter Guide is a bit more *nebulous about the spiritual perils of voting Democratic. As such, conservative Catholics aren't totally on board and want stronger language. Not surprisingly, Foxy priest Jonathan Morris is part of that group and used his Sunday sermon (from Rome where he's carrying Cardinal Dolan's baggage or holy water, or whatever) to advise his Fox congregation about those "non-negotiables" that could result in a one way ticket to the lake of fire for those who vote Democratic.

If the GOP right wing doesn't like reality, they just deny it. As with evolution, climate change, polling results, and unemployment stats, the Republicans deny that there is a "war on women" despite the reality of unprecedented GOP led attempts attempts, in the last two years, to limit women's reproductive rights. This right wing meme is being advanced by their media mouthpiece, Fox News, whose guests and talkers ignore the reality of the regressive policies and laws whilst promoting the right wing talking point that women are more concerned about the economy than their lady parts while ignoring the reality that for many women, access to affordable reproductive health care is vital to their personal economy. Last month, GOP Senate Candidate Wendy Long and Gretchen Carlson discussed how the focus on reproductive rights was "insulting" to women and a Democratic "distraction" from more important issues.
